I read that she will have to take a drug regimen for life to stop the immune response. The same docs did a hand transplant where the guy got sick of the regimen and eventually had the new hand amputated.

This isn't news. Hillary Clinton is getting a new face as we speak. Only difference is that this delicate operation isn't being performed by surgeons, it's being performed by the New York Times.

Put little electrical tape across your eyes and no one will recognize you. Hey, if glasses make Superman incognito, who's to say?

It seems abhorrent but it must be done in order to be perfected. People left permanently disfigured when a solution is possible is unethical in the extreme.

Organ transplants were as horrific in the beginning, today they are near routine procedures.

And they call this an upgrade?

Did this package include the teeth too, or were those an extra cost option?

Nonsense, you guys. Good for her. It looks amazingly clean for such a complex surgery.

Poor girl had serious trauma to her face. I hope all goes well.

Not a bad rework on a face. I'll be curious to see what she looks like when the sutures are removed and the swelling goes down.

I really hope she pulls through. Disfigurement of the face can be such a burden.

I think this is wonderful - the fact that there's an "ethical" problem with this is scary.

When is Nancy Pelosi going to sign up for this? She's already had everything else done.

Wasn't she supposed to have really bad scarring from a dog attack or was that someone else? Is the first picture the *before* shot? It doesn't look like she's got that bad of a problem even though the picture is blurry. I don't get it.

This incident reminded me of Grandmaster Flash's lyrics from "The Message"

They pushed that girl in front of a train
Took her to a doctor, sowed the arm on again
Stabbed that man, right in his heart
Gave him a transplant for a brand new start

I am thrilled for this woman. I only hope the transplant stays and her body does not reject it. Imagine if your face was ripped off and you had nothing-- no lips, no cheeks, just a big gaping hole of ruined flesh... she was unable to eat properly or swallow, she had to wear a mask when she went out in public... the teeth are hers obviously... right now the tissues are swollen but I would say that once the swelling subsides she ought to look pretty good... as for the scars, I think they will fade down also... or with makeup they will be less visible... I mean, I'd take those scars to having no face at all... I have seen other deformed people and I think this will be a saving grace for so many who have been born with deformities, or burned, or otherwise injured...
I did not like the idea of organ donation before (what ELSE are they going to do to you dead body?) but I would gladly give my facial skin to a needy soul when I die in an operation like this...
God bless her...
pray that this works for her...
