Reporting in while watching "Santa Claus is Comin' To Town." Got an interesting discussion topic, what are you favorite Christmas TV/movie specials?

I'll vote for "The Year Without Santa," because I like the Cold and Heat Meisers. Or is it "Year without Christmas?"

Cool. "How The Grinch stole Christmas" has always been my favorite :)

"Year Without a Santa Claus," that was a good one, I always thought the Miser Brothers were cool. One thing though, at least Heat Miser was willing to deal were he was willing to trade the South for the North Pole. The bad thing with these specials is that some parts were cut out. Getting back to "Santa Claus is Comin' to Town," they cut out the scene where Jessica was singing and you had a psychedelic background of flowers and so on and as she ends the song, she sees her reflection in the fountain. Also their wedding scene was cut short. I haven't seen the former since I was 10 or so and I'll be 40 next year.

I'm looking forward to a "Charlie Brown Christmas" where they did restore a scene where Linus knocked a tin can off the fence "David style" using his blanket like a sling. I loved Linus' reading from The Bible, it was beautiful. It is 40 years old this year, when it was shown in 1965, I was a twinkle in Mom's eye. B-) I remember in elementary school, we watched it too, surprising because of the Biblical reference although 30 yearsago, the PC crowd didn't have their tenticles everywhere although the ball was starting to roll then.

I always liked the Grinch. I feel he's a very relatable character to me. It's too bad he goes soft at the end.

Yeah, I hate how so much gets cut out of these specials. Have any of them been released on DVD yet? I'm sure some of those might even include deleted scenes, let alone the original versions.

One reason "A Charlie Brown X-mas" is even shown any more is because it's a classic and has nastolgia value. I wonder if today, you could even get away with showing it for the first time on a big network. Anything Charlie Brown related is usually wonderful and special in a way that nothing else could be. Like Wallace and Grommit, Charlie Brown is in a league of animation all its own.
