Music............Did the end start with Frank?
Fortunately, we still have Dylan, Young, Petty, Prine, Santana, Loretta and Allison Krause.
Liberace, Frank, Mel Torme, Ella, Sarah Vaughn, Billie, ...............oh.........the list goes on. They're all gone.
Meanwhile, there's good 'ol RAP music and Dave Matthews and blaha blah blah<YAWN> in some circles for the youngens.
So sad.
Has music died........is it Dying?
Should we all sing American Pie?
Who's left to carry on..........to carry on?
I agree with Toby Keith, Willie Nelson and and Garth Brooks. But Kenny Chesney, Faith Hill and Tim McGraw?? Awful pop music dressed up in boots and a cowboy hat, IMHO.
I'll stick to real country like Hank WIlliams III and Wayne Hancock.
What I like to do sometimes is look at the top songs of a few years back and think to myself: "Wow, I hope those guys saved some money".
Joan Osborne
Fugees
Lauryn Hill
Master P
Hootie & the Blowfish
Lou Bega
Dionne Farris
Natalie Imbruglia
Ricky Martin
SWV
All-4-One
Lisa Loeb & Nine Stories
Smash Mouth
Counting Crows
Sugar Ray
Tony Rich Project
Ace of Base
P.M. Dawn
Savage Garden
Spice Girls
I am sure there are plenty more.
I really like Hank Williams and Willie, too. So sorry to have lost Waylon. I'll check Wayne Hancock.......never have heard of him.
Meanwhile, we had a huge loss when Ronnie died.
Where's Dickie Betts, btw???
I find nowadays a lot of the Spanish acts (even though my Spanish isn't very good), blow away their English counterparts. My wife took me to see one of her favorite bands, they are called La 5a Estacion, and their lead singer is this chick who can sing her a$$ off and they totally rocked the house. (And she's hot to boot, but don't tell the wife I said that :)) But I find myself looking to outside the English market for good music. Besides, it's better sometimes if you don't understand the lyrics.
Sinatra was an astonishing singer. His acting was infused with self-consciousness.
It hasn't been the same since...
I love Tower of Power! Saw them at the Hollywood Palladium at the Teenage Fair! Those were the days No gang bangers no violence just a bunch of kids many long hairs and potheads but all peaceful and GRRRRRRRRRRREAT Music
I just saw them this past August in a nightclub in northern VA and they're still terrific!
You have that exactly RIGHT.. Sinatra was, and even now, IS the finest interpreter of the Great American Songbook.
There is truly no one who is presently recording who can replace Sinatra's creative artistry. But, speaking as a Sinatraphile, I'm a tad biased. :>)
