Would someone please explain the appeal of this dish? I've never understood it. It looks and smells awful.

Oddly enough, this has become a Thanksgiving tradition at our house:
Ritz Crackers, Broccoli & CHEESE Casserole
3 lbs. frozen chopped broccoli, thawed well
2 lbs. cheddar cheese
1 sleeve Ritz crackers
1/2 stick butter
Grease casserole. Layer broccoli, diced cheese and crushed Ritz crackers, dab butter on each layer. Repeat until ingredients are gone. Bake in 350 degree preheated oven for 1 hour, uncovered. Serves at least 10. Adjust recipe accordingly.

I loathe green bean casserole (although I do love green beans), but politely eat it every holiday season. Around this family, those Durkee things are used as the topping.
