It's a .223 caliber rifle, it's intended for law enforcement only, It's a .223 caliber M16 style military "assault" rifle, it's intended for law enforcement only, There, thats better.

if this were one of us peons that left a fully loaded semi auto rifle in the back of our cars overnight in an area that has a car break in a day we would be brought up on charges. But the super citizens get a free pass once again because after all they are the only ones that are responsible enough to be trusted with guns.

I am not a police officer. Anyone know the rules about leaving police issue firearms in personal cars?

If the weapon is used in a crime, the taxpayers will have to pay up too.

My gut instinct on this wants me to believe that the rifle was not semi-auto, but selective fire. I could understand the embarassment of having the rifle stolen, but the urgency of retrieving it suggests that if it were for "law enforcement only" it was selective fire. Ruger AC-556 or one of the M-16 types.

"It's a .223 caliber rifle, it's intended for law enforcement only,Hey, I've got a few of those. I didn't know that they were for LEO only. Been shooting them for years. Even the two that say "Law Enforcement/Government Use Only" (Hey I've never seen that before)
I guess if I were a cop I wouldn't feel so bad..........NOT!!!!!!!!

Amazing. It's stolen from a cop, and they correctly identify it as a benign-sounding semi-auto rifle. If this was stolen from a citizen, I'm sure it'd be just as you described. Gotta give the local station some credit here for their characterization of the rifle.

More like sickening IMHO. They want to keep the public from having them and then LEO goes out and arm themselves to the teeth complete with ninja teams. I will bet it was a class 3 M16 that they got from one of those cushy govt grant programs to "help" local pd's.

pepper spray works much better on them! You can engage more of them with the stuff.
