I'm 40, the cute girl from upstairs is 23. When she stopped by to commiserate about loud neighbors, we had a beer, went dancing, and then had sex. Afterward, she seemed weird and left abruptly. I wrote her a note, "Sorry if I made you uncomfortable, but I love you and look forward to seeing you again." She hasn't looked at me since. Where did I go wrong? -- Mr. Neighbor

Grateful as you may be to a girl for having sex with you, it's never a good idea to let on. You could've had a future with her -- the kind 40-year-old guys without handfuls of bling typically have with 23-year-old girls: jump-starting their cars, lugging their couches up four flights of stairs, and maybe catching a little action when there are no hot young guys to be found. You blew it, though, with "I'm a lonely sack of emptiness!" -- which is how "I love you" translates after one beer, one dance, and one roll in the sack. (You say "I love you"; she says "It seemed like a good idea at the time.")

He's got my phone # by his bed and will call when he knows something.

He's a fiesty old fart - my favorite kind!

We had a wreck here a few months ago. The pilot was 72 and the press was trying to say that the reason he crashed was because he's too old to fly. Blah. (had nothing to do with it - but they were trying to find an angle)

They interviewed "fiesty old fart" and he said, "That's BS, I fly every day and I'm 84."

They stopped taping and walked away.

;-)

I don't think its necessarily true, it's just that some folks create that impression when their commentary deviates (often considerably) from things that have been written, filling in blanks with strange, often misplaced commentary.

When that commentary comes across as a bit bitter, and incorporates overstatements and extrapolations well beyond what have been said, its off putting to many people and it's natural for folks to think that there is some kind of psychological bloodletting going on.

Sticking to what has been explicitly said and avoiding negative conjecture tends to mute that impression, with clear minded people anyway.

Accept the opinion of an English major, please: grammatical errors are not trivial to me.

If you're an engineer, is the crack in the foundation trivial?

If you're a cardiologist, is the tachicardia trivial?

I am curious as to why you guys react that way...

In this case, the continuing insistence on wildly distorting what was originally said, then arguing against points that weren't actually made suggests that the fight certain posters want to pick is with other people entirely. Who else could those other people be but men who have caused the posters such problems in the past?

I only reply to posts that directly address something I actually said. Yours is the first one of those in a long while. ;)

LOLOL! You just described every local newscast in the country. Dasher - pretty female anchor Asian guy - weather Black guy - sports Older guy - fatherly anchor ************************************** LOL. We don't have Asians here yet, we're solidly 20 years behind the rest of the nation. But we did have an actual Father/Daughter team for the "fatherly anchor" type.

Communication is efficient when the receiver receives and understands the message. Communication is effective when the sender receive the desired response.

That is exactly right.

HItmanNY's comment "...me and Mr. Jeeves..." wasn't a trivial grammatical error. Period.

(I'm not really here, just voyeuring.)

It is difficult crafting a good, meaningful response when I have to dedicate a good portion of the response to explain that what has been raised has no real connection to what I was saying, and was conjecture or imagination on the part of the other poster.

No, not at all. I don't train men to do well with women, that's not my niche, though me and Mr. Jeeves have considered co-hosting a $ 1,000-a-head weekeend seminar here in Las Vegas to turn Freeper 'nice guys' into more macho, decisive, and uncompromising types.

Attraction from women naturally follows. :-)

Yeah, women just love an uncompromising man ;) Gee, and to think one of the first things about love is that you learn to compromise a bit. So, must be, you guys want women, but aren't willing to give the love.

Lotta money for something that doesn't scare you a bit.

Sadly, it's arguing apples and oranges (and totally supports my separate planet belief). You want women. Not love.

Ok I sort of get it...

I am trying to wrap my brain around

you guys thinking if a girl cries fowl

over something said and gets upset..then

that same thing happened to her? and thats why she

is bitter?

For future posts.....I don't hate men

and actually think they are amazing and I love mine...

so if you see me responding ..

I am just needing to get a sample to study it in a little dish

under the microscope.....deal?
