McALLEN, Texas (AP) -- A Texas employment agency was sentenced to five years of probation for hiring illegal immigrants to work at the nation's top producer of military battlefield rations, federal prosecutors said Thursday.
The Tollin Group was also fined $20,000 and ordered to pay $414,000 in civil penalties Wednesday. It has been barred from Department of Defense contracts for three years.
The San Antonio-based company, which does business as Remedy Intelligent Staffing, pleaded guilty in January to hiring illegal immigrants and trying to cover it up by falsifying employment eligibility forms. The workers were hired for Wornick Co., which makes MREs - or "meals ready-to-eat."
The investigation was initiated in February 2003 after an al-Qaida operative was arrested with information pointing to McAllen and Wornick as terrorist targets. Wornick had been awarded a $47 million contract to produce more than 1.1 million MREs for U.S. forces in Iraq.

The FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force ran background checks on Wornick employees and found hundreds of temporary employees with fraudulent documentation.
No direct link to terrorism was found.

"No direct link to terrorism was found."
"Direct" is an interesting qualifier.
That caught my eye too.
Maybe it means connected to Hamas but not Al Qeada.
Probation was granted due to the fact that the Federal Prison System does not currently have a cell large enough to house the employment agency building.
Look at it this way, we could kill at least two birds with one stone: help the Mexican economy (since the Bush Administration is intent on doing precisely that) by establishing new businesses in Mexico and hiring Mexicans and really punishing employers who at present see only a plus side of hiring illegal aliens.
McAllen...again.
Cal, I remembered this report from last year. It was an al qaida member who told the authorities about Wornick.
I'd say that's a DIRECT connection.

9/9/04 McALLEN, Texas McAllen police have alerted federal homeland security officials after the arrest of Massachusetts man 18-year-old Atbin Hoshang Forgotten of Canton, Massachusetts, on a burglary charge. K-R-G-V T-V in Weslaco reports police say their suspect is of Arabic descent and had just arrived in McAllen after a bus trip from Boston.
McAllen TX has had another suspicious incident this year
"Farida Goolam Mahamed Ahmed was arrested July 19th at McAllen-Miller International Airport as she tried to board a plane for New York"
In the words of another TMr (sorry, I forgot to clip the originator):
Folks, I'm a Texan, and McAllen is a fairly small, "middle-of-nowhere" type of town. You don't go to McAllen for the scenery. Strange coincidence for these two incidents to be happening there.

10/1/04 McALLEN Information provided by a high-ranking al-Qaida operative led authorities to almost a dozen undocumented aliens who worked for the largest supplier of ready-to-eat meals for the military, officials said.
U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Texas, Michael Shelby, said Thursday an al-Qaida member told U.S. military personnel about the Wornick Co., located here.
"Immediately after the liberation of Afghanistan from the Taliban in 2002, U.S. forces on the ground received specific information that links McAllen, Texas, by name and the Wornick facility by name to information within al-Qaidas possession," Shelby said.

Where is the jail time?
I'm wondering why you didn't place this in Front Page news. It was the first headline that came up this morning when I checked my mobile web.
I was only let out of time out yesterday by the Admin Moderator for abusing the Front Page Side.

O, darn, I only see a red 'x'; musta been a good one ...
We can't have any truthful headlines about illegal immigration showing on the FR sidebar, to attract inquiring minds who don't know about the 'aliens' keyword, eh?
BTW, there is also a Sidebar Moderator.
I know there is a sidebar mod. I was suspended for posting too many articles to Front Page.
So I am going to post to chat from now on and code everything with Keywords so the articles can be found.
This report reminds me of the human feces on the pasteries and the fake flu shots, who knows what our Military are eating.
