Can we agree?: Shep Smith is preening ignoramus.
Smith just concluded an interview of Juan Williams by offering up the following pet theory:
"When President Bush nominated Miers, he did so with a big wink and let conservatives know she was 'one of us.' But even though conservatives knew that, they rejected her, because she was not sufficiently in-your-face as a pick, and they wanted to poke liberals in the eye with a nominee."
Has Smith been following the debate that has raged in conservative circles over Miers? Is he aware of the serious doubts that arose as to the bona fides of her conservatism? Did he read her speech that became public yesterday in which she expressed support for "self-determination" on abortion?
For Smith to suggest that conservatives rejected Miers despite being confident of her conservatism just because they wanted to inflict more pain on liberals with a more 'offensive' nominee is idiocy parading as theory.
I can say, as someone who was opposed to Miers from day one, that it had nothing to do with wanting to poke liberals in the eye. I simply doubted her conservative and intellectual credentials.
Poke in the eye works for me!
LOL!
The theory is gay.
Shep has always been a social liberal. His coverage on the Terri Schiavo case proved to me just where he stands on issues pertaining to innocent human life. He expressed a cruel giddiness about the whole thing, and I kept waiting for him to say something like "when is the worthless piece of crap going to die"? I kid you not....his demeanor smacked of sarcasm and thoughtlessness. He's the same way on abortion. Just listen to him today, firing off rounds left and right against conservatives. What Ailes sees in him I'll never know.
I started not liking him when he covered Katrina
So that makes it true??? Are you kidding me?
God, it drives me CRAZY when people, especially smart conservatives, accept rumor, supposition, and innuendo as fact.
Are you saying that you were satisfied with Miers' conservative bona fides, but opposed her because her nomination was insufficiently offensive to the Dems?
As a veteran of many of the Miers threads here, I never saw anyone advance that opinion.
Yes, some people said "bring on fight with the Dems." But at the same time these were people who were unsure of Miers conservatism/credentials.
I said the same thing several times here on FR.
Good. Then you opposed her on the right grounds. I think there were very legitimate concerns. However, I can certainly understand how someone could take away the impression that the right wanted a fight and that fight was turned on the President instead.
(I have to say I hate this whole thing. I am here defending Shepherd Smith for crying out loud, and I am NO fan of his. His Katrina coverage was beyond the pale.)
I almost never watched the guy because he always gave me bad vibes. Much too often he made the story about himself, the hallmark of bad journalism. But I have tuned in today because of the importance of following the SC coverage. The guy is truly awful. It's all about him.
Strangely enough many here seem eager to believe the gossip in some homo magazine.
ROFLMAO
Has he confirmed his side of the plate?
Has a Harrietbot.
Who disagrees and why?
It has gotten embarrassing for FR the way that threads are highjacked to promote hatred of follow human beings. This thread that you posted had nothing to do with Shep's life style, true or not. I am no great fan of Shep but I would be embarrassed for him to see this thread. FR sure has changed.
Shep is way too transparent in his news broadcasts. His childish offhand comments and goofy facial expressions distract from what should be a serious and professional delivery of the news. He has this element of satire that runs throughout much of his broadcast, and instead of simply hearing the daily news, the viewer is constantly reminded of Shep and how HE feels about a particular story. I like Rick Folbaum much better and wish he'd replace Shep permanently.
That has never been the President's attitude and I hope it never does come to that.
If you read the posts on this thread you would swear you were at DU.
Pretty sad here today.
