At the risk of alienating the roughly 1/3 of FReepers who, judging by the FR poll, support the Miers nomination, I believe its withdrawal has now become a question of when, not whether.
The final nail was probably the John Fund article in this morning's WSJ which strongly suggests that if hearings proceed, some very messy matters regarding the Texas Lottery and W's National Guard service will be dredged up. Here's a link to the Fund column:

Note also that, after staying above the fray, the influential Wall Street Journal editorial today calls the Miers nomination a "mistake."
So with this as preface, and again, with apologies in advance to FReepers who might be outraged at the exercise, I am starting this pool to predict when the announcement will come - be it from the WH or from Ms. Miers herself - that the nomination is being withdrawn.
I'll start the ball rolling by putting in my pick at the early end of the spectrum:
Monday, October 24th, 5 PM.
Have at it!

Hmmm..Ok- I'll go for broke with 5 PM. :)
Sadly..there are no winners in this- no matter what happens.
Bet they were disapointed over Delay's mugshot..
July, 2025.
"I don't think she will resign.
The $hitstorm has mostly subsided."
In his WSJ column today, John Fund suggests there's a lot more very messy stuff that would hit the fan if the nomination ever made it to Senate hearings.

Surprisingly, Today didn't feature the Delay case - at least not in the first half-hour when I was focusing on the show.
I'm not sure she's going to withdraw, although since they are such good friends I'm not sure why she doesn't do it sooner rather than later, because the situation is clearly hurting the president.
BUT, just to get my chance at winning the Walmart eraser in there ;), I'll predict Sunday, October 23, at 2 pm. ET (after all the talk shows are over).

Hmm, that's the second 2025 entry. Designed to coincide with return of Haley's Comet? ;-)

Hey, come to think of it, neither do I!
I rarely cook, which is a relief to those who have sampled some of my offerings.
Duly recorded!
FYI...I was thinking about doing a similar thread last week..but decided I didn't want to subject myself to all that abuse..as always, Mark..best regards
Agree with workerbee.
well whatever.
I don't think, given the amount of attention already given, that there is anything else out there.
She will go to those hearings. Whether she comes out of them is another matter, but Bush hasn't ever been one to back down once a decision is made or a stance taken.
GMTA. I believe such a thread last week would have inevitably generated many angry responses. But with the passage of time, I think virtually all FReepers recognize that a withdrawal, if not a certainty, is at least a plausible scenario.
I have been pleasantly surprised by the good-natured spirit in which all on this thread have been responding, even those who believe Miers will not and should not withdraw.

Aside from some ill-considered steel tariffs he imposed, then lifted, I'd agree. But this is a huge gaffe, IMO, and the firestorm it has created will, IMHO, prove more than even a very determined W can withstand.
Wishful thinking.
OK.
