Ex Diehard Democrat. The fire burned out today! Welcome a newborn republican!
Posted on 10/20/2005 9:52:27 PM PDT by lionel _huts1
Well fellow republicans, the title says it all. After a huge scuffle with a now ex friend (democrat), I am now a full blooded republican. I won't go into details why I decided to change, but I now see the light. Democrats are liars, deceiving, and very discriminative.
I never thought I would consider myself as a republican, but I know believe. It will take some time for me to adjust and to rethink a lot of my positions on social issues, but I think we all know how theyll change.
But for the meantime, I have a lot of emptiness and pain right now. So if everyone could give me a warm welcome and a huge hug, it would help me a lot. I am hurting inside and just need some reassurance that Ive done the right thing..
Thanks.

I'm a lifelong Republican, but I'm still a kind of newbie here (May 2, 2005). I can give you some advice.
First: not everyone here at FR is nice, accepting, and tolerant. You're not always going to be greeted with hugs and kisses. You'll meet some real jerks here, just like you'll meet real jerks everywhere else. They'll insult you, send you hatemail, and even threaten you if you cross them.
Second: not everyone here agrees with everyone else. There's no "official" viewpoint really. Try to discuss issues, and not argue. Explain your situation, and get people to explain their positions to you rather than getting into a brawl.
Third: you'll have to be very careful here until you've been here awhile. Unless you're seasoned, people are going to be very suspicious if you say the wrong thing.
Be nice to people, make friends, don't let the jerks and far-right wackos get you down (not everyone on FR is intolerant of other opinions, but those who are are the most vocal). Most importantly, have fun.

It's common courtesy on FR to reply. Otherwise you're thought to be a troll.

Absolutely. Sometimes I get overwhelmed trying to reply to every post that's made to me. Sometimes.

But a general "thank you" looks less suspicious.

Oh not much. Late at night on FR, as usual. I've got one more panel left for tomorrow's FReeptoon. I'll work on it tomorrow. I already know what I want to do for the next one. That'll help me move the Wednesday toon to Tuesday.

Well fellow republicans, the title says it all.
First of all "Republican" is a party. It is a loose-knit network of persons who share a common interest of getting elected and promoting agendas. Not everyone here is a Republican. Not everyone here even believes in political parties.
After a huge scuffle with a now ex friend (democrat), I am now a full blooded republican. I won't go into details why I decided to change, but I now see the light.
If this is to be believed, I can only say that you are making a big mistake. Your personal political philosophy should not be based on who your friends are or no longer are. That said, I'm sure your identification with Democrats was also just as arbitrary and also based on interpersonal relationships, and not any sort of deeper philosophical contemplation.
You need to stop letting your mind be the plaything of others. Being mad at someone or getting your feelings hurt isn't a good enough reason to change political parties. Just who do you think you are anyways..? Jim Jeffords?
Democrats are liars, deceiving, and very discriminative.
That much is true, but seriously now, its not like you just discovered that now. The entire Democrat political strategy is based around lying and deceiving as many gullible people as possible. Every Democrat already acknowledges this all with a wink and a nod.
I never thought I would consider myself as a republican, but I know believe. It will take some time for me to adjust and to rethink a lot of my positions on social issues, but I think we all know how theyll change.
How can you now believe if your positions have not yet changed?
But for the meantime, I have a lot of emptiness and pain right now. So if everyone could give me a warm welcome and a huge hug, it would help me a lot. I am hurting inside and just need some reassurance that Ive done the right thing..
What you need to do is avoid politics completely until you are mature enough to think for yourself.
Thanks.
You're welcome.

Interesting. I'd do writing like that myself, but...I just don't feel like it right now. The toons are enough for now.
