Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Fare you well! Fare you well!
New verse:
|
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Stand-alone chat-view has been continuing... just saw the charge of the Rohirrim at Pelennor fields...
"Ride! Ride now! To Ruin! and the Red Sun Rises! Death! Death! Death!..."
Dang... I love that shot. I love it when the orc line breaks ranks in the face of the charge... good stuff.
ecurbh... are you sure about the bit where the same theme is used there as with the ents' charge? Or am I in the wrong place?

Hold your ground! Hold your ground!
Sons of Gondor, of Rohan, my brothers! I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me.
A day may come when the courage of men fails. When we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship.
But it is not this day! An hour of wolves, and shattered shields when the age of men comes crashing down!
But it is not this day! This day we fight! By all that you hold dear, on this good earth... I bid you stand! Men of the West!
[snif]
Damn... I wish I'd said that. :-)

Did you notice that the music on the soundtrack for the Battle at the Pellenor fields is slightly different than what's in the movie? In the soundtrack, it builds in minor chords to a majestic climax in a major chord. The same thing happens in FOTR, at the Ford near Rivendell when Arwen is being chased by the Black Riders. In the soundtrack, when it gets to the point where you can imagine the waters as white horses engulfing the Black Riders, there is a lovely crashing brass theme. That is NOT in the movie, which is kinda strange, but I guess the music there had to get soft in order to hear Arwen's challenge to the riders.
I LOVE the music in all three movies. I'm glad Howard Shore won Oscars for FOTR and ROTK, though, he should have gotten it for TTT as well. I was sweating it for ROTK because Cold Mountain had a lovely soundtrack, too.

ecurbh... are you sure about the bit where the same theme is used there as with the ents' charge? Or am I in the wrong place? The nature theme is playing when he does the sword clanging and the "death" thing. You hear it most clearly then. It switches to the Rohan theme for the charge.

ecurbh... are you sure about the bit where the same theme is used there as with the ents' charge? Or am I in the wrong place? That's the place... it's a very slow half-time version as Theoden does the spear-rattling, then normal tempo during his "Forth Eorlingas!" Once they actually start the charge, the Rohan theme takes over again.
