Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Fare you well! Fare you well!
New verse:
|
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

The smoking ban goes into effect in 30 days, on Dec. 9. $%^&* rat-bastage fargin iceholes. So much for freedom.
Now I want to start smoking just so I can engage in a little civil disobedience... If my honey'll let me.

Where'd you get smoking banned? Restaurants or something?

Everywhere, including all restaurants and bars! And not just ~in~ them, but 25 feet away from them. It's just ridiculous.
The interesting part of this is that it doesn't apply to the Indian casinos, so they quietly pumped lots of money into supporting it. Don't get me started on that!

Huh... I think they have that here. At least restaurants, I don't know about bars. But you're allowed to smoke on patios associated withe the restaurants and such. I don't really notice since I don't smoke.
The indian casion thing is just weird.

Hi, Jen!
A week and 2 days from now and its:
"Goblet of Fire" time!:o)
To: JenB; ecurbh
I'm sure the Indians were all for the ban since it didn't apply to them. That way, folks who want to smoke while they're eating and drinking, will have to do it at the casinos!

'Zactly. They already have a monopoly on gambling and fireworks. Now add smoking to the list.

As a non-smoker who also has allergie related breathing problems and can't be near smokers or even bar-b-q pits, I'm glad there is a bann on INSIDE smoking, but when thay start to bann smoking OUTSIDE or in your own private cars or homes, I'm against that!
I mean, Folks who smoke should be able to do so in thier own homes.
To: Pippin
Yeah, it's a hard one for me... I mean, as a matter of principle, I don't like people's liberties getting squished, and the freedom of a restaurant owner to allow smoking or not doesn't seem like something the government should mess with. But selfishly, it's nice... back home there were a couple restaurants that had good food but I couldn't eat there because the smoking section wasn't well ventilated or whatever.
Guess I'd prefer to let the free market take care of things. Nonsmokers wouldn't eat at restaurants where somke was a big problem, smokers wouldn't patronize places that didn't allow smoking at all and maybe things could work out equitably. Without Indian casinos involved at all.

I didn't know about the Indian Casinos.

The marketed as a workplace safety issue... for the bartenders and waitresses. It doesn't mention restaurants or bars sepcifically, it's "all workplaces" and "within 25 feet of any building door or window".
It'll just hurt bars the most.

Workplace safety, huh? I can't think of any workplaces other than restaurants/bars that would allow smoking anyway (unless they're little two-man outfits) and really, if you're a waitress and there's smoking, how hard is it to get a job somewhere else?

Well I don't know any bar waitresses at all, so...
I only know two people (in real life, obviously) who smoke and one just quit a couple months back. Have been thinking I should pretend to start smoking just so I can have nice fresh air breaks a couple times a day ;-)
