The Hobbit Hole XXV - Fare you well! Fare you well!
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 10/15/2005 7:13:08 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Fare you well! Fare you well!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Right. Except Heroine skips the "give to the poor" bit of the whole silly philosophy and goes with a "give to me" motto. It's actually kind of fun to write someone who has so little in common with me.

I think I will take off early here.. this weather is insanely nice. It was 30 this morning but now it is 70, breezy and the trees are at just the right point in their change to feel like the peak of fall.

~sigh~

My parents got the jedis some Xbox games. Expensive ones, so they are naturally apprehensive about them getting delivered. I understand that and have been watching for them all day because on-line tracking said they were being delivered today.

So I got an email from my folks saying that according to the on-line tracking, "The package has been delivered". Well, it wasn't out there and that's not uncommon, I've had that happen before. I think my delivery guy cheats or something, I don't know. But I wasn't worried. It always shows up a little while later.

I wrote them back and told them this but had the sinking feeling that I wasn't believed. No proof, but just know from experience, you know?

So when the UPS guy delivered the package about 30 minutes after I got my folks email saying it had already been delivered...I took A PICTURE of the UPS guy holding a clock! LOL!

I've used the UPS tracking before. Sometimes it will say something has been delivered when it's just on the truck. I don't think it's an exact science.

Didja send 'em the picture?

No sense trying to tell them that though...only a picture proving it would work.

Didja send 'em the picture?

Dang right I did.

:-)

Heh, I see that you did! Did you tell the guy why you were taking his picture with a clock?

Heh, yep...I told him.

Steve says, "What's the point? Why bother going to such lengths?"

But reality is truth and truth is very important to me because when I was young, reality had no meaning and all I could hold on to was truth, even when it seemed to contradict reality (or at least what I was told was reality.)

I bet that doesn't make any sense to you. But there it is.

Proving a truth always makes me feel so good!

For only a couple of minutes.

Then it just feels hollow. Because Steve is right...there's no point.

Makes perfect sense to me...

Afternoon everyone, I've been non-chatty today because I've been fighting a headache since I got up.

But my feet feel great, and I'm going to town now to pick up horse bedding and bird food.

Back later :~D

Oh I would like to think there is always some good and some significance in pointing out that which is true. It might be mostly futile but it is an noble effort none the less.

I thought that a pawnshop needed to be included. Hmmmm...

She picked up her pace as she passed in front of the gaping window of a pawnshop. Twisted iron rails protected the glass from would-be thieves and vandals though most of the merchandise was locked away at night in tight metal boxes and taken home by the shopkeeper.

Pausing briefly, she narrowed her eyes and peered through the black railings lining the window. Nothing remained on the display shelf but a few shabby books, chipped plates and a burned-out toaster.

Remembering the shop owner’s tendency to arrive before sunrise, Promise moved away from the window and resumed her course to the park. The thought of Guido Santaloni appearing out of the pre-dawn gloom was far from appealing.

Guido, toaster, pawnshop...check.
