The Hobbit Hole XXV - Fare you well! Fare you well!
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 10/15/2005 7:13:08 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Fare you well! Fare you well!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

As far as I'm concerned, they just have to be mentioned. I can't really make them central to the plot of my story.

Evelyn had passed on the meal on the flight. She hated airline food, even when it was served in first class. She had opted for the vodka stingers instead. Food would be a good idea. There would be time for more vodka later.

“Maybe a cheese sandwich Sally, if you wouldn’t mind,” said Evelyn. “And some fruit.”

But I want some of the quirkier aspects of southernors to show thru.

"Quirky" and "Southern" are pretty much synonymous.

I'm not sure, it just showed up in one of our recent conversations.

FWIW ~I~ didn't add any requirements.

I'd advise against putting cheese in a pop-up toaster...makes an awful mess.

Maybe that's what made the toaster turn to the dark side...

Evanovich's Joe Morelli is a hunk of yummy hot stuff.

He is a cheese sandwich?

It's going to take me a while to get the llamas in, I think. Maybe the heroes will take Guido's Llama Tours to get them deep into the Amazon jungle.

Mmmm... he could be.

I think I'm going to have one of my MC's be a cheese sandwich fan. Speaking of which, I'm hungry.

Would a pimento cheese sandwich count?

I read that as "cheese sandwich"... maybe we can get Rosie to have a cheese sandwich as a hero...

Or maybe a fan made out of a cheese sandwich. Would make an interesting weapon.

Not much good... I don't think, anyway.

My heroine's sister is apparently a bleeding-heart liberal. Hmm. Well after she gets kidnapped I bet she shapes up a little.

Cheese sandwich - check.

Turns out the geeky little engineer, now dead, kept a stash of sandwiches in the fridge at the field office. Minor character is glad - they're survival food now.

Excellent.

My heroine, the cat burglar, is giving her bleeding-heart sister a lecture about the true roots of poverty. I need to get this story moving.

The true roots? You mean from the heroine taking all their stuff?

She only steals from rich people. Poor people don't have anything she wants.

I cut off the rant before it go started, it was boring even me, but hey, there were a few hundred words.

Sooo... she and her sister have the same politics but the younger one subcontracts it to the government?
