The Hobbit Hole XXV - Fare you well! Fare you well!
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 10/15/2005 7:13:08 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Fare you well! Fare you well!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

So far you are the first to remember it. I thought maybe Ecurbh would know Peter Gunn, being a musician. My ear for music isn't good enough to know whether or not the theme from it was any good.

I see now that it was on TV from 1958-1960 which could explain why we're the ones who remember it!

I've never actually ~seen~ Peter Gunn, but I am certainly familiar with the theme. It's one of Henry Mancini's biggest hits.

Lots of people would recognize that theme, even if they don't know what it's from.

Many may think it was written for the Blues Brothers ;~D

(geek mode) Actually Bilbo was well past his tweens during The Hobbit. I can't recall right this second if he was fifty or sixty. As soon as he got the Ring, he stopped aging. So Ian Holm could do it if they get started quickly. (/geek)

I'm wanting to say he's 52 years old when he takes off with the dwarves...

Just off the top of my head.

Actually, I think he turned 52 on the barrels out of bond...again, going by memory...

Right, so, old enough that Ian Holm could probably do it. With the right stunt double.

Oh, don't go to the expense of Priority Mail! I can get them in the ground in mid-November and still be ok, I think. I've planted them as late as that before.

They have all the ~short people~ doing stunts anyway, don't they? ;-D

All Ian would have to do is smile for the camera and call for his close up.

No thanks!

On another note...tonight we're meeting up with other NaNoWriMo participants from the area, and I still don't have a plot.

I'm half thinking of just coming up with a list of objects / people / places / etc. and building a plot around 'em.

Like, for example: toaster, mountain, Dark Lord Bob...

Hey, how bad can it be? Don't answer that.
