The Hobbit Hole XXV - Fare you well! Fare you well!
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 10/15/2005 7:13:08 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Fare you well! Fare you well!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Ewwww...

But you know that if there were such a thing, no matter how nasty it was, someone would declare it a delicacy and sell it for about a zillion dollars an ounce.

And only a liberal would buy it.

In order to support the poor misunderstood Balrogs; yep.

It isn't exactly full of antioxidants, is it? :P

I am ~not~ sending you a box of frozen corndogs.

DANG! I like corndogs!! ;o)

I hope it won't get too cold for planting in the next week. After our week and a half of rain, we had a gorgeous sunny day yesterday, but I didn't get out to do any seed planting because of the wind gusts! I figured that most of the seed would end up in the neighbor's yard.

I was hoping to do it today, but now it's COLD and windy. It's supposed to settle down tomorrow, though. I need to figure out just where I want to plant those beauties!

Both went above and beyond their previous works to do LOTR. Anything after that (except for The Hobbit) is a step down for both of them.

You're right. I guess that magnificient literature inspired them both to go beyond their previous capabilities. Lucky for us, huh?

And I'm still wondering who will be cast as Bilbo if Ian Holmes is out.

Why should Ian Holm be out as Bilbo? At the beginning of FoTR (the movie), Bilbo LOOKS just like he did at the time of the events in "The Hobbit", many years earlier. Remember, Gandalf looked at him quizically and said "You haven't aged a day."

And Peter Gunn.

LOL! I can just hear half the folks in the Hole asking, "What's Peter Gunn?"
BTW, that's the first theme song I think I even noticed myself. Very cool!

I am currently measuring and gridding out the office. Management has decreed that we shall get new furniture because we're cramming another person in our room. We figger it'd be better to plan this ourselves than to have a solution forced on us.

Good plan. Too bad you can't do 'loft desks' like they do 'loft beds' in dorm rooms. /sarc

Good morning.

The air conditioning is broken in our part of the building today. Yippee! :-(

Oh well, there are more important things than A/C...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ROSIE COTTON!

Gandalf has been visiting Bilbo off and on over the years. Bilbo was in his "tweens" when The Hobbit began. That probably made him about 10 years older than Frodo was in FOTR. For his 111th birthday, Bilbo looks like a hobbit in his early 50s, judging by the graying hair.

Judging by what other hobbits were saying about Bilbo, he seems to have aged slowly, and then stopped at the point where he appears in FOTR.
