Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Fare you well! Fare you well!
New verse:
|
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

OH He's super cool!
And you say he's not going after the chickens? He's big, but he doesn't look big enough to actually cart one off. He looks like the hawks that swoop down and pick up little birds once in awhile off the bird feeder.

So far he's done nothing but add drama to their lives...they really kick up a fuss when he's around.
But he is beautiful though...when we approach, he'll spread those wings and just soar through the back yard! It's awesome.
I think he's a juvenile. And I think Mom may be nearby...he calls and someone answers occasionally.
It's cooler than anything...but I keep a sharp eye on the chickens and put them away if I can't.

I doubt they will let me take one on the plane.I don't see why not. When my friend Nancy graduated from college in 1978, her lovely Grandma Gruber flew in from Memphis with a beef brisket, an almond cake and a quart of chopped liver in her carry on. We ate like kings that weekend, and when they flew out, a couple of days later, they left the chopped liver with me. YUM!

Did they ask you questions about Mississippi?Oh, I'm always 'sharing' stories about growing up in the South. I amused the girls greatly when we went to New York City back in 2003 for a weekend trip. I had my wooden fan with me, and if I got a little warm, I'd whip that thing out and have myself a nice cool breeze. Before the end of the weekend, ALL the girls knew the proper way to open, hold and close that fan. ;o)

I usually cheat and use the Pillsbury crusts. One of the first things I learned to make in Home Ec was pie crust, and I do a pretty good one, but anymore I use Pillsbury because I just don't want to bother messing up the counter rolling it out the home-made ones. Lazy, yes, but I'm cooking other stuff, so I use the short cuts that still taste fine.

May be...
And that's what I think...he's scoping them out.
They yell like crazy sometimes though...it's kinda funny.

A big development went in just down the road from us and they cleared a LOT of riverside forestry out for the new housing.
It's a shame, but I believe that's what is causing this unusual influx of wildlife into our backyard. The hawk is beautiful, but out of place. The opossum is apparently living under my neighbor's porch.
They're just misplaced creatures and I feel kinda bad about it.

LOL! Like hobos used to do...leave marks on property so other hobos would know if a place was good to hit up for a meal or a barn to sleep in or if a person might shoot at them.
I bet there is a mark on my house somewhere..."Safe". LOL!

It probably says "free chickens."
Doesn't seem like I cleaned up much. Did the dining room and the living room. What took all that time was going through the accumulated paper. Think I shredded a couple of trees today.
