Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Fare you well! Fare you well!
New verse:
|
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Hmmm, if you send me family recipe I could try that, if you'd like.
Looking back at old freepmail - 3/18/04 would be when we first "met". Seem like a long time?

That would be following the exchange of posts on

Mincemeat was Mamma's favorite. She'd make it all year 'round. She would use the dried mincemeat, and make a Crisco crust as flaky as the ones in the commercials.
Unfortunately, pastry is not one of my gifts, so I usually cheat and use the Pillsbury crusts.

So it was... wow, that was six months before I moved and everything.

Whut - buying the crust is cheatin'?
At least here I have an excuse, I have been reliably informed that you *cannot* make a pie crust at this altitude.

Mamma had a very good hand with desserts. As far as I know, she never bought a dough crust, and only bought graham cracker crusts a time or two; she would make her own.

Wow... I am impressed. My mom taught me that if I pulled the result out of the oven, I had made the dish. ;-)

Yeah, right!
The flip side of that, of course, is that I was grown and gone before my mother would eat anything I made.
I took Monkey Bread to a family gathering, back when I still made an effort to hang out with my kinfolk. Only when my cousins started raving about my Monkey Bread did Mamma try it.

Oh, dear... that's a shame. My mom was always encouraging of our cooking even when it wasn't very good. As a result I like cooking now and I'm good at it when I try (hope so anyway!)
Monkey bread is fun! My sibs used to like it when we'd make a cinnamon monkey bread in a bundt cake pan for breakfast on special occasions.

Mom would encourage our cooking by telling us to go make dinner. If we did not know what to make she would point out a few things but other than that it was 'go make it'. Which worked fine since she always did that when there was something simple ready to be made.
To: TalonDJ
Heh, we'd argue over who got to cook dinner, because when you made dinner you made something you really liked. We had beef more often that way, Mom is not as big a beef fan as the rest of us.

Just a little story to end the workweek...
My boss was in a meeting where they argued for three hours about rounding and truncating numbers.
I have no hope of ever reaching that level of geekness.

Man...I get home after a day of earworm battles with my partner-in-crime at work, and find this waiting for me!
Not that it isn't a good tune, but...now it's stuck.

It's true. They've been dating for almost a year now.
I never would have thought those two would come together out of all of the folks on that show.
Rumor has it that Dom is buying her a $50k ring to seal the deal.
