The Hobbit Hole XXV - Fare you well! Fare you well!
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 10/15/2005 7:13:08 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Fare you well! Fare you well!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Sorry... but *your* failure to involve us and plan ahead does not make it an emergency for *ME*.

Preach on, brother!

Steve took the jedis to a hockey game.

I'm really lonesome.

I'm planning a trip with the disaster relief team to the Gulf Coast. Steve is going to take some days off and has some floating holiday days he can take too and we're going to ask his mom to come down and stay.

If it goes as planned, I'll leave the 23rd of December and come back the 1st of January 06.

Waiting for cousin to arrive with fiancee's chicklets. They're going to sleep in the living room and we're all going to goof off tomorrow while cousin and fiancee do wedding planning frap.

She bought one of my disused (and largely unusable) violins for $20. She expects to be able to fix 'n' play it.

Heh...yep. It's the only time I can go. Steve can't take his floating holidays after the beginning of the year...he'll lose them. And it's the only time till Summer that I won't have to teach and record the jedi's curriculum.

We're prepping the jedis for the possiblity now and having their "Ma" here would help alot.

I received my Gerber LMF II aircrew knife today, just in time for my deployment to Afghanistan. It is ten times the knife compared to the standard issue Army blade I now carry on my flight vest. I hope I never have to test its capabilities though I have no doubt it would pass with flying colors. THANK YOU very much for letting me carry it and the reassurance that goes with it. You should be very proud of the great work your group is doing. Thank you for your support.

Hehehe... I'll post it... you tell me...

This guy sent this message just minutes ago, but not to me, to the ~entire~ IT department. Eighteen people. Certain parts redacted to anonymize.

Here's his message, sent to the whole IT group:

Subject: URGENT

Hello,

We have a project that requires real time data transfer of video and audio between three of our offices ([a], [b], and [c]) and have software for this purpose. We have been trying in vain to get this working today between [a] and [b]. The software has worked previously between [b] and [c], and works well internally within [a]. We are in need of immediate support as we have scientists and engineers in the three offices all trying to coordinate this for two clients. We need this to be operating smoothly by Monday for the clients. We have a test between all three offices on Sunday. We need to have the problem we are experiencing in [b] fixed immediately.

Please advise.

My reply follows:

Since this project must have been planned for some time, who in IT did you involve to assist? I'll find out from them what the status of the project is, and hopefully resolve any last minute issues in time.

What software are you referring to?

Regards,

[Ramius]

Well, I'll go with a team from all over the state, but I doubt I'll know any of them unless someone actually from my church is going to and the possiblity that I might not even know them is very big...it's a massive church.

They are rotating teams out every week. One team arrives on Saturday and leaves the next Sunday...then the next team comes the Saturday before. So there's a bit of an overlap.

I figure we'll have a Christmas Day early...like on Thursday. Open presents and such.

Then on real Christmas day "Santa" can come (even though I won't be there) and they'll get a few token items from him and plus get their stocking stuffers.
