Any advice? They are notorious for doing a lot of nothing in Louisiana. It is a destruction of intellectual property issue.
Most intellectual property matters are civil (private counsel) not criminal (public counsel, or prosecutor). Call your local bar association and ask for a referral to a specialist in that area. The prosecutor just puts people in jail or collects fines for the government. If you were deprived of your property you want to recover from the person who took your property, which entails private/civil counsel. I know your state is based on the Napoleonic code, but I think the distinction still applies. Good Luck.
Sounds like a civil matter, not criminal. Fork out for a lawyer, you cheapskate.
Interesting that you would choose zot as a keyword.
It was up before anyone posted.
I hear kitties growling and smell ozone, and my radiation detector is going off.....
There are criminal statutes, but the law needs to show intent and the person who committed this crime is claiming it was an "accident" Hardly an accident to reformat a hard drive and reinstall the operating system.
Hmmmm....
Have you tried pounding sand?

Welcome to Free Republic. Enjoy your (short) stay.
So you had valuable data that you didn't back up, you didn't password protect your boot, and you didn't have physical security for the machine? At least they were nice enough to re-install the operating system for you.
Have you tried a data recovery service?
My personal advice to you is to call the prosecutor's office and make a lot of demands, drop a name that you think will impress them, and be sure to say "I pay your salary."
It will be their immense joy to help you.
