Apprentice Discussion Thread
Vanity

Posted on 10/13/2005 6:42:59 PM PDT by Huntress

Episode 4 of Season 4 of The Apprentice is on tonight. I'm a little late in starting a discussion thread, but I'm enjoying this set of contestants more than those from the Season 2 and 3, so here goes.

TOPICS: TV/Movies

Very cool, thanks for posting. We have to be at a company Christmas party tonight but will watch the show later. I think he has it in the bag. Trump makes the final decision and I think he's had his eye on Randall all along. What an inspiration for your students. You'll have to get him to come back and give a motivational speech. I bet he would do it gladly.

Unfortunately, the impending bad weather has caused the party at school tonight, to be cancelled, so we will all have to watch from home.

I think arrangements are being made for him to visit school in the near future. His mom still lives in the area.

I agree that the Donald has had his eye on Randy from the start......he'd be a fool not to hire him.

That was just so wrong. Randal had nothing to lose. He was ungracious.

It may have been ungracious, but he would have killed any future shows if he said "sure, hire her too".

What if the Eagles and Patriots had both played a great game in the Super Bowl last year? (I know it's a stretch, but humor me for a minute) Do you think the winner would have said "well, they're just as good, may as well inscribe both our names on the trophy?"

Perhaps he could have phrased it better, but his point was well taken.

That was the absolute dumbest thing Randal could have done! America now perceives him as Satan for denying Rebecca that job. They could have worked on seperate projects without conflict.
he will lose endorsements for that

I'm on Mountain Time. Has the show aired in its entirety on the East Coast? Did Randall win? Spoil it for my wife and me! :-)

Well, I disagree. Trump has two projects. He has two outstanding people. All season long he has emphasized surprises. He fired 4 people in one sitting -- that was unprecedented. He could have hired 2 people at once. I've seen every season and never before has he had 2 such exemplary candidates. Exraordinary circumstances call for extraordinary decisions.

Also, if you value loyalty, and an employee says "She's really good but don't hire her" what does that make you think? I respect Randal -- but I respected him more 15 minutes ago.

Hello SpeedFreeper, Welcome to FR.

Randal was a complete jerk. He had nothing to lose and could have looked like a hero. He threw it away for nothing.

I thought that Randal costing Rebecca her dream job was a set up. But, I don't know why! What do you think?

Plastic Man couldn't hold the stretch you're making here! There is no comparison at all in your argument. The Apprentice show is not a battle for the one and only "King of the Hill" spot in the Trump Multi-National Global Empire like the Lombardy Trophy IS in the world of professional football. Everyone knows that Trump's winning "Apprentice" will really have a mid-level manager's job and really be one of dozens (or more) at his level.

Randal had a beautiful opportunity to be a hero and bring Rebecca aboard, costing him nothing. Randal is actually worse than what's-her-face on Survivor who screwed 4 people out of cars so she could have her one. As if they wouldn't have pooled together to make it up. Sometimes, I really don't understand these "best of the best".

And I think you make the best case here - It was up to Trump to hire an apprentice, not Randal. If he wanted to hire both of them, he should have hired both of them. It shouldn't have been Randal's decision.

As to Randal's decision, I think he made the right one. She may be a firecracker and solid as a rock, but while he has time and time again expressed respect for her, I don't think he thought she had what it took. And how the question was phrased, "if you were me, would you hire her as well?" I think he not only answered it properly, but exactly how Trump felt. He wanted to be convinced, yes, but the name of the game is The Apprentice, and that was what he got.

Had Randal argued differently, yes, she would have been hired. It would not surprise me if Trump did indeed hire her; but she won't be The Apprentice and that's right in my mind.

He said "not tonight" when asked about hiring her. He was right in my opinion.

I respectfully strongly disagree with you on this very important matter of national security. :)

If he wanted to hire both of them, he should have hired both of them. It shouldn't have been Randal's decision.

Of course it was never Randal's actual decision. The whole set up is called "good television". You have to admit that it was dramatic, and look at us talking about it now. Mission accomplished.

Immediately after Randal threw Rebecca under the bus, Trump practically said in words that he would have hired Rebecca if Randal had supported it. As I argued in an earlier post, in the Trump organization "President of one of my companies" equals a mid-level manager's job. Nothing to look down on, but come on, no apprentice has any serious responsibility. There is no "The"Apprentice. This is the fourth season. Randal would not have been threatened in any way and he could have played the chivalrous hero. He passed. A very weak move IMO, and I think he will be taken to task on it in the endless series of forthcoming interviews.

WRONG CALL TONIGHT DONALD!

Why?

I think Randall was the clear winner. Not to take anything from Rebecca ....she was EXTREMELY competent and (to be honest) a marvel. However:

* Randall had her beat throughout the rounds (he has a no-loss record while she was 1-2),

* Randall was also the one who was ALWAYS chosen by the teams whenever Donald asked one team to choose a member from the other,

* and even in the final task Randall managed to keep his eye on the main goal while Rebecca seemed to get swept off by Yahoo (to the detriment of the AIDS charity).

From an objective viewpoint Randall was the clear winner here. I loved Rebecca, and honestly I think she was excellent, however she just did not win Randall. She ALMOST beat him ....which is why she lost.

Now, what Randall did after winning is another topic (with debatable pros and cons), however when it comes to who won the answer is pretty clear. Rebecca was very good, but Randall was better (an analogy might be a game where one team scores 125 points, while the other scores 128. Both teams were excellent, but the team with the score of 128 won).
