No Hangovers for Two Years! [Now 3 Years!]

October 8, 2003 is the date that I quit drinking for good. It has been a great two years!
When I was drinking, I thought that life would be impossibly boring without alcohol. How can you enjoy parties, football games, vacations, weekends, etc without alcohol? I found out that not only is it possible to enjoy these things, that in many ways they are made better without the "buzz".
I haven't had a hangover in two years and that is a blessing.
I have occasionally had brief thoughts that I might be able to drink normally now that I have controlled myself for this length of time. But I understand myself better now. The fact that I would even consider such a question and action even for a millisecond is a sign of my lack of control over alcohol. My only sane solution is to keep it out of my body.
I urge anyone who suspects that they may have a drinking problem to find help and deal with the issue. I wish I had quit when I was 30 instead of 41.
Almost a year ago, I posted a thread on FR, If You Suspect You Might Have A Drinking Problem (An Open Letter). There might be some help there for you if you are trying to quit.
Thanks to all who have helped me to quit and to stay sober.

And last but not least, I don't intend these threads and posts to be viewed as a way to congratulate me, and I am aware that it might look that way to someone (probably not an addict) who is lurking. This truly is my honest attempt to show others that it is possible, and it can be great, to give up alcohol. If I helped a single person through sharing, it is worth it. At the same time, I strengthen my resolve to remain sober.
I don't find your threads to be self-congratulatory in the least. I applaud your efforts to share your positive experience with anyone else who is in need of the same, and I would also post a thread like this once a year if I felt I had a similar message to share.

For the first time in three years, the thought crossed my mind, and I said No to that part of my mind. It was a fleeting thought.

6 months after I quit drinking in 1999 (still sober), Miller Brewing laid off 200 people. No joke.

"Other peoples reformations are rarely that interesting. And never News"
How novel!
I'm used to hearing the drunk in the audience heckle a speaker.
Instead the self-admitted (and reformed) drinker gets heckled.
Robfromga,
Well done, and keep up the good work.

Coincidence? Maybe. Maybe not.
Congratulations Crawdad. The math doesn't seem to add up, though. If you quit drinking in 1999, the same year I bought this 1998 Windstar I have owned for 7 years, come Dec. I can't figure out the three years without a hangover, part. Unless you slipped up a time or two (no shame in that, to err is human) but jumped right back on the wagon.
May your freedom from alcohol be permanent this time, Crawdad.

FJM

Congratulations! I'm very happy for you. :) I've never done much drinking, but the few times that I have it made me very sick. I can't hold my liquor, and I'm glad I can't, because it keeps me from drinking. I hate feeling sick for the next day or two.
