If it does come down to these two teams advancing to the next round, I'm picking the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim to defeat the Chicago White Sox of Chicago.
26 and counting.
You know, I was born and raised on the North Side of the city of Chicago, and naturally I grew up as a Cubs fan. I had a hard time accepting Harray Caray when he became the announcer of the Cubs, because to me he was the announcer of the hated Cardinals and then the hated White Sox.
Well, I'm still a Cubs fan, but I no longer hate the Cardinals or the White Sox. I married a St. Louis gal and have been living down here for quite some time. And the White Sox are still Chicago (albeit the South Side), so I'll cheer for them in the AL.
I want to see a Cardinals-White Sox World Series this year! It could very well happen!
BTW, have you noticed that even though the White Sox had the best record in the American League, and even though they swept Boston in this series, the vast majority of the posts in this thread have been about the Red Sox? The White Sox are still virtual unknowns, the Rodney Dangerfields of baseball, who get no respect.
The Yankees have plenty o' rings...
Just the #2 and #3 markets in the country there. :-)
Chicago had better starting and relief pitching as well as better defense.
Down the stretch the only Red Sox guys you needed to worry about were Manny Ortiz. Trot, Mueller, Millar, Nixon, Tek were all ineffective.
Nah. this team wasn't good enough to win this year...
Yankees still own the biggest choke in history....
Theo is a God in Boston and he grew up within 5 miles of the park.
He's Luchino's boy.
Good chance of that happening. LaRussa is a great mgr hated to see him leave Sox. Well, I'm still a Cubs fan, but I no longer hate the Cardinals or the White Sox.
I'm a south-sider and you know what we say, our two most favorite teams in baseball are the go-go white sox and whoever plays the cubs... there is more than enough room on the bandwagon glad your aboard. Last year Boston, this year White Sox, hopefully next year is the Cubbies year.
Well most White Sox fans don't want their respect. We were picked by most to finish 4th in our division. We are still picked as the worst odds to win the World Series behind San Diego. We are still picked as the underdogs behind everyone.
I enjoy being the underdog. The Boston Red Sox found that out this weekend.
You can join Jayson Stark of ESPN.com who picked the Twins to win the World Series and the White Sox to finish fourth in the AL Central, congratulations!
The Sox, like the Cardinals, got their late-season slump out of the way just in time, perking up at the very end. Both teams are playing very well right now.
Doesn't really matter. The rest of the country will not be interested. There's no rivalry. They have no nationally-recognized stars.
I hope we get to play them :(
And take the Cubs with you.
Not me man. Boston has always been a tough team to beat. As a life long Yankees fan, I have been able to read the writing on the wall for a long time. Any team that can sweep Boston is gonna go all the way.
The Yanks gotta reprieve today with the rain-out, but, I can't see them taking the next 2. I hope I'm wrong. I pray that I am wrong, but, unless the Yanks go on a streak, such like the Red Sox had last year, it's Chicago all the way.
They're due. Longer drought than the Red Sox. Statistics support everything evening out, given enough time.
That being said, and having lived in Boston for 40 years, I wonder where the Blame-Game will fall and on on whom. The Curse of the Bambino is finally laid to rest and now, the Sox have only to face the fact that they were beat by a better team. If they accept that, they will grow as a team - and as a Red Sox Nation...
I wonder if there's anybody from WSI that posts here.
You mean the Big Useless? Well, he wanted a reaction from the fans, and he got one last night!
And I'm still peeved that Torre went with the likes of Kevin Brown and Javy Vazquez in Game 7 of last year, and never pitched El Duque, even though he said he was ready and able to get into the game.
