In FR News today, the forum formerly known as “Free” Republic went downhill at an amazing speed. Moderators insanely restrict the postings of fellow conservatives and this long time FReeper JesseP will have no more. The $72,000 pledge drive, told to me by Jim Robinson himself is primarily going to fund his personal expenses along with two of the mods. In other words when the wife receives a gift, it is paid for by fellow FRreepers donations. This Ex FReeper will now be calling his bank and canceling the donation made this weekend and it is suggested that others do the same.

Also I do not beleive there are stupid christians that is very judgemental and mean spirited to resort to name calling and as a christian I think it's wrong.

Laney..This board has a variety of political beliefs. It gets rough at times..
There are rules on this privately owned site...People get banned..some just move on and some sign up under a different name in order to whine about something..therefore attracting ridicule.
This poster,JesseP,deserves ridicule.
People disagree, insult and get ugly..some are suspended and some are banned when they stray too far over the line..
Attacking the owner is not prudent..Whining is unattractive. Contributions are voluntary and everyone knows we do it in order to show appreciation for having this forum...We pay their salary, voluntarily ..and that is so we can have the best political, news site to click on and discuss our views..and to keep up with our various Freeps and activism to combat the lefty loons.
Contributing to this forum makes me feel a part of helping keep this great site available. There are posters here that I differ with and still respect..
Politics is hardball. You are praying that human nature changes...I must say that there are some parties, people, organizationa in this great land that do not wish the best for America..and I cannot treat those ideas with respect.

If I may be so bold as to add to what MEG33 has said.
We do allow many differing opinions and it does get rough sometimes.
But we police our own. We believe in and expect others to adhere to the concept of personal responsibility. If one of us gets out of line, there will be somebody there to call us on it. I've been there and done that on both ends. The mods allow us a great deal of leeway and only step in with the ZOT when we cross THEIR (or Jim's) line.
I let myself get sucked in by a provocateur once. I made some comments that were clearly out of line and FReeper Right Online called me on it even though my comments were not directed to Right Online.
My comments did not reflect the image of a conservative and offended somebody other than the person I addressed them to. That person took me to task for it and was right to do so. It took me a couple days to swallow my embarrassment before I could publicly apologize but I did. My apology was accepted and Right Online and I have since shared some humor about the situation.
I didn't get suspended or banned or even warned. My post did not even get pulled. I got spanked by a contemporary, I took responsibility for my misdeed and made amends.
That's how it works here. Some folks, like this guy just don't get that. That is when the mods step in and we get to have a little fun at the expense of the person who got the zot.

Thank you both for your in-put. I was not trying to be confrontational with anyone, just trying to understand.
Since I have not been here that long to know what is acceptable and what is not by different opinions I was just curious as why some folks were banned, as I did not see any rude insulting remarks, but I guess I will learn the drill on threads and posts as I am on more.
I do like the religion threads and they don't seem to have as many heated arguments as the political one, but I guess it just mimics real life.

I didn't interpret your questions as confrontational at all. Newbees can get treated rather harshly around here. Some of us remember that and try to guide the new guys along a bit. I think that is what MEG33 was attempting and it certainly is what I meant to convey.
What's that old rule about not discussing politics, religion or sex to avoid fights? Well, we delve into the first two very heavily around here. And there are frequent fights over both.
Many times you won't see the offending remarks that get a person banned because they are almost always so bad that the remarks themselves get pulled first.
This particular thread stayed fairly serious because of the subject matter and the offender. Do a search on keyword ZOT and you will find some of the funniest stuff on FR along with some great cat pictures.
Have you had the chance to familiarize yourself with the Viking Kitties yet? If not, visit the Admin Moderator home page. There's a great history of the ZOT and the Viking Kitties. If you're a cat lover, there is even a Viking Kitty ping list that is made up mostly of cute pictures of cats.
I lurked for a long time before joining FR. Part of that was so I could learn the ropes and part of it was because I wanted to be a financial contributor before joining and had to get my house in order for that. I started coming to FR during the impeachment. Those were hard times and it was downright scary to see how the old heads treated noobs. It's better now but can still be intimidating. If you stay within the guidelines and the expectations of a conservative, your input, debate, argument and sometimes even rude insults will be welcomed (or at least allowed).
You will find some of the finest people in the world at this site. You will certainly find some of the most wonderful Christians on the religion threads. You will almost always find breaking news faster here than anywhere else in the world. This is truly a worldwide network and we look forward to having you as a member and getting to know you.
