Stupid vanity of mine. Any freepers in the medical field?

I've been feeling a little pain in my left hand when I make a fist or move it certain ways the last week or so. Dismissed it as part of getting old.

Just now, I've discovered the source of my annoying pain. It's about 3 inches above the middle point between my index and middle finger toward my wrist and there's a semi hard lump about the size of a dime in diameter and about 3/8" in height. When I press it, it sends a little pain down to my middle and ring finger.

Oh sure, I will surely be ridiculed. Go ahead, make fun of me, freepers and others. I am going to call my doctor in the morning and make an appointment, but in the mean time, it would be nice to get some input from my online friends who are in the medical field. Yes I am scared upon discovering a lump and shamelessly soliciting free advice.

And it turns out so far that I am being a drama queen and it's nothing more than a ganglier (sp?) infection thing.

Not an infection. An inflamation of a tendon sheath. A sort of sprain.

You are so right, the web is no match for face to face visit with a doctor as you said. Anybody can claim to be a doctor on the web. However, I've received some good advice from some people.

I am going to call my doc and make an appt asap. I did hit my left hand pretty hard with a utility knife that left a scar. So far, your dianosis seem right on target and I feel better. I was thinking of the dirty 'c' word right away.

Yes. I only deserve His grace because He loves me, NOT because of my merit.

Thank you for your input. So many here say that it's a cyst and I feel so much beter already! Will let y'all know what my doc says.

My father was a veterinarian. Didn't have much faith in doctors. He split his lip one morning doing cores and drove himself to ER. Sat there bleeding all over the place while the doctor on duty finished his coffee. He then got a hack job getting it sewn up and told the doctor he did better work on a horse.

Dad used his animal knowledge well on the family. We got medicines and he even set a broken wrist once-- it was my pitching arm and hasn't bothered me since. My kid brother got his arm set by an MD in a playground accident with a similar break, spend an extra 3 weeks healing and his arm wasn't normal for nearly a year afterward.

Large animal vets are better than MDs if you can find one. I'm serious.

Thank you so much. It turned out to be ganglion cyst. I should've updated some of you on it, but then the SCOTUS mess started and I forgot about this thread. Thanks again for your concern.
