>>insensitive images such as tomahawks,

Like a certain team (who once played in Boston and later Milwaukee) with a tired chant (apologies to any Braves fans, but at least I find it tired...)

FUN WITH TED AND JANE

(couldn't find the famous shot of Ted and Jane dozing off at Braves playoff game)

oh ok, thanks! yes, I was trying to remember who had won
earlier yesterday and I thought "Maybe it's the Dodgers, no wait, it was the Giants". I must have been thinking about 2003 or 2002?

Questions .....

Who do you like as the 10th and 11th pitchers?

I think DiNardo has to be a lock, plus one of Delcarmen/Hansen/Gonzalez/Harville. I'd take Delcarmen. Don't think we'd have a need for Gonzalez against the ChiSox.

Did we luck out on announcers ... or no? "Chris Berman, Rick Sutcliffe, and Mike Piazza are scheduled to work the first three games of the Red Sox-White Sox series." Berman is annoying. Piazza ..... OMG. I don't remember hearing Sutcliffe cover a game but I'd think he'd be good. And I know the guys for the Yankees series -- McCarver and Buck -- are self-important morons.

Sutcliff is a bit of a doofus but not any worse than Joe Morgan.

I hate all the freakin' National Announcers - especially the ABYSMAL Morgan/Miller combination!

I think Matt pitched fine, myself. The ChiSox are impatient hitters.

He'll be fine if he commands the strike zone.

Pitching:

Wells
Clement
Schilling
Wakefield

Arroyo
Timlin
Papelbon
Myers
Bradford
DiNardo

I'd take Hansen over Delcarmen for this series and see how he does if you really need an 11th pitcher.

Talk about damning with faint praise ....

Still, I can't handle any more McCarver/Buck.

I wonder if I can get Joe & Jerry's radio coverage .....

I'm tempted to agree with you on Machado over an 11th pitcher, especially for a 5-game series against a relatively weak offense.

We won't have an 11th pitcher. Tito already announced the 15 position players:

1-9:
c- Tek
1b- Olerud
2b- Graffy
3b- Mueller
ss- Edgar
LF- Manny
CF- Damon
RF- Trot
DH- Papi

Bench
c- Doug
1b/of- Millar
util- Cora
util- Machado
of- Hyzdu
3b/1b- Youks

My choice for the 10 pitchers:
Starters (4)
Wells, SP
Wake, SP
Schill, SP
Clement, SP

Relief Pitching (6)
Timlin, RP
Pap, RP
Myers, RP
Bradford, RP
DiNardo, RP
Arroyo, RP

Huh. Missed that, 'cause I had Hyzdu as my 4th OFer, and Machado would've been 5th/pinch runner.

I know we have Youk in case we need a pinch-hit walk, but Hyzdu is a ML hitter, if not a great one.

What we really need is a 4th outfielder with great speed who can hit. You know, Dave Roberts, the guy who singlehandedly dragged the Padres to the division title.

White Sox take Red Sox, although Boston will win two games.

Yankees over Anaheim in four.

White Sox beat Yankees in Five. -----------------------------------------------------------

Cardinals in Five

Houston in Five.

Houston beats St. Louis in Six.

Sounds good to me. Missed that news -- with all the excessive postseason coverage it's hard to find what you are actually interested in. Like I said, I think DiNardo's a slam dunk choice. You get a decent lefty reliever with ML experience and a long man all in one.

I think that 10 pitchers is probably okay although I like having 2 lefties in the pen since Arroyo has real trouble against them.

The Herald says it's either Jeremi or Lenny.

Gonzalez 2-1, 6.11, 28K, 16BB
DiNardo 0-1, 1.84, 15K, 5BB

Hmmm....

I'd do with Lenny and that's not to slight Gonzalez as he did come in when they needed him to pitch the games when the other team was beating on the Sox. He started a few games and pitched well in relief in some others....not exactly lights out mind you but I recall some games when he went 2-3 innings and gave up nothing.

He doesn't match up well against the CWS. Not enough heat on his fastball, not enough placement and his curve is okay but nothing to get too excited about.

Next year they need to get an everyday first baseman that doesn't need a platoon or defensive replacement. Having the Millar/Olerud situation is a waste of a roster spot.
