Abu Graib Photos
the pierce gazette | 9-30-05 | Ted Pierce

His Arrogance, U.S. District Judge Alvin K. Hellerstein and the self-aggrandizing ACLU know that the psychotic islamofascists will be inflamed by the redundant Abu Graib photos.

I get it, Stu. You're just a weirdo.

Sorry the personal insults haven't worked out for you. Better luck next time.

That's the same rationale they use for not dislosing the race of a suspect (whom we are supposed to be looking for) on the TV news. The whole "guilt by association" thing.

No it is not. This story has already been covered IN DETAIL! We have the suspects. We are dealing with them in court. These pictures uncover nothing new. The only thing that will happen with the release of these pictures is more bloodshed of our troops. I am not OK with that.

There can be no luck trying to get you to explain your inane absolutism on never censoring anything regardless of the costs. And you really are just a weirdo.

If they uncover nothing new, then what are you worried about?

Since everyone already knows what's in them, why make a big stink about hiding them?

The only thing that will happen with the release of these pictures is more bloodshed of our troops. I am not OK with that.

Since everyone already knows what is in the pictures, why would it result in more attacks on the troops? You think someone who might not otherwise attack the troops is just kicking back on the couch drinkin a beer right now, and this well-known pictures are going to all of a sudden cause him to strap a bomb to himself and fling himself into a Jeep?

I doubt it. The people who want to fight already have their reasons.

P.S. Don't treat prisoners of war like animals unless you want the world to know you treat your prisoners of war like animals. If it is going to disgrace the nation, just don't do it. Then, there will be nothing to hide.

I feel that this basic point of personal responsiblity is being lost on some folks.

And by the way, this is kind of the rational that the Catholic Church used when dealing with the molestation scandals.

Bury it as much as possible to protect the church as a whole from scorn. Everyone knew it happened, so no need for anyone else to come forward.

I don't think it was successful. Fear of the unkown is worse than knowlege of the known, no matter how unpleasant.

Might your obession with me end at some point? You're becoming a stalker. Fine I'm a "weirdo". I'm "stupid". We all got it the first 7 times you said it.

"obession" is not a word I'm familiar with. Maybe since you've said you're against public schools you can explain. Stalin used to call people obsessed if they disagreed with him, but you're the model of rationality and would never stoop to name-calling or invidious accusations about another's mental state.

Typo griping?

Name calling, no. But REPEATEDLY posting that I am stupid and weird (especially when nobody is arguing with you) is a little creepy in my personal opinion.

I'm weird. I'm stupid. You win.

Be gracious in victory, take your trophy, and move on.

To Americans, this is an old story. To foreign countries, it may be made into something else. You assume in your arguments that everybody in the world views things in the same way or is provided information in the same way. You have no idea how these new pictures will be presented in foreign countries. They may be portrayed as a brand new event or govt's may spin it to make people think that we have not taken care of the problem.

Censorship of national issues is one thing. Not realizing that other countries do not follow our censorship rules is asinine.

P.S. Don't treat prisoners of war like animals unless you want the world to know you treat your prisoners of war like animals. If it is going to disgrace the nation, just don't do it. Then, there will be nothing to hide.

So even though those who treated prisoners like animals have already been given their sentence, the nation should be disgraced again for the same story AFTER we have taken action?

Yes, but they can fabricate photos with photoshop or do any number of things tomake us look however they want. Countries can invoke whatever propoganda campaigns that they wish. I'm sure in some countries they are told that we eat babies and fornicate with farm animals. Everyone in every country is told that the people of other countries do nasty things. Such is life.

I think this is a poor reason to censor legitimate news photos to the American public.

Censorship of national issues is one thing. Not realizing that other countries do not follow our censorship rules is asinine.

So we she dumb our censorship rules down to the lowest common denominator? I thought "freedom" was what made us "great"?

So even though those who treated prisoners like animals have already been given their sentence, the nation should be disgraced again for the same story AFTER we have taken action?

We just assume the whole issue is known.

Apparently there are pictures we haven't seen. Maybe there is more to the story. Maybe there isn't. Show them, and let people decide for themselves. Let's not encourage the state to think for us.

Have fun viewing the new pics. I do not have a very good opinion of politicians, but I have tremendous faith in our military and that they have fully addressed this issue. Put me down as guessing that you will only conclude that Lyndie and friends are still guilty.

Whose fault is it that the photos were taken in the first place? Who actually did the harm?

Well, they were found guilty by the military that you have faith in ... so I assume that they are guilty.

You kind of contradicted yourself.

Nope. The military has its share of bad apples. I have faith that our military can effectively discipline its problem children. You obviously do not.

Bye.

I have no idea what you are talking about. Apparently neither do you. You said that I probably thought that Englund was guilty, and I said I did think she was because the military found her so. And you responded that I obviously have no faith in military justice.

Whatever part of the country that response makes sense in ... I don't want to visit.

Bye.

Bye.

I wonder what argument changed Judge Hellerstein's mind? Please read the article that I found dated August 31, 2005 where Judge Hellerstein is quoted as saying, " The judge questioned whether he could disregard arguments by Gen. Richard B. Myers, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, who has warned that releasing the photos would aid al Qaeda recruitment, weaken the Afghan and Iraqi governments and incite riots against U.S. troops.

"How can I ignore the expert opinion of Gen. Myers, who is concerned with the safety of his troops?" the judge asked. "I can't substitute my opinion for the opinion of Gen. Myers."

He said troops in Iraq "face danger every day and don't deserve to have that danger enlarged.""

This thread and a couple of the posters on it had my blood boiling. Must be card carrying members of the ACLU, or the "haven't got a clue" club. Thought you might like to read this article I found, which I posted on this thread.

Nobody's head is in the sand, except yours!

The perps have been tried and are now all sitting in jail. This is an aberration and publishing the pictures can only inflame our enemies and cause needless deaths to our troops and others.

During WW I ans WW II, ALL articles and pictures were censored and rightly so. That you are incapable of comprehending any of this and cling to absurd lefty talking points, is shocking! And worse than that, you have the nerve to equate keeping these pictures out of sight, with Chinese and Arab propaganda news? HOW DARE YOU DO THAT; BRAINWASHED OR BRAINDEAD, ARE YOU!

This isn't "censorship".

What's amazing is that there is anyone here as stupid and blind as you are and the few others of your ilk.
