This sounds a lot like "If a Man Answers" an old Sandra Dee/Bobby Darin movie.

The mother helps Sandra Dee (the wife) train the husband (Bobby Darin) by giving her a book on dog training.

Many years ago Bobby Darin and Sandra Dee made a movie like this. There was also a book. This idea isn't new, but the first one was supposed to be funny, not serious.
