(tech vanity) What wireless 802.11g routers/cards do FReepers recommend?

I've used a Linksys WRT54G for some time now, but was dissatisfied with its wireless range (firmware fully updated, tried various placements, still so-so wireless reception).

Then I went to the Belkin "Pre-N" Wireless router & card, and the results are even worse.

So what wireless 802.11g routers/cards do FReepers use & recommend?

I've got a Belkin 54 g. I can get reception all over my house, and I've never had to call Belkin support.

Anyone have any experience with one of these new Linksys monstrosities?

Well, I went the Expander route instead of shelling out big $$ for the newest Linksys SRX setup.

I'd tried the Linksys Expander previously, but it didn't work with the weirdo Linksys WRK54G 802.11g router I had at the time.

Now that I have the more mainstream Linksys WRT54G router, and after some fits and starts in getting it running (it helps to have a hard copy of the manual around for reference), the Expander works pretty well!

Slim, I knew you'd be gratified to hear all this.

Printing out the manual from the CD-ROM and referring to it helps -- it has info that the "automatic setup" steps don't mention.

Make sure to assign the Expander the same SSID, channel and signal encryption password that you're using on your Router.

We're using the Linksys Wireless-B WPC11 wireless card in our laptop, with a Linksys router.

I can only attest to the merits of that: and that Linksys' customer service is the best I've ever had. They have helped me with repeated problems multiple times.

I finally figured out my 2.4 Ghz cordless phone was interfering with my wireless network, so upgraded that instead to a 5.8 Ghz phone. Is it possible this might be causing your problems as well?

Yeah, it's possible -- but I fiddled around with using different wireless channels.

That and the range expander seem to have solved my problem.

My dial up has only one setting, SSDD.

Great! I tried that (diff channels) but probably did it wrong as I just couldn't keep the network alive.
