We will not tire, we will not falter, and we will not fail!
Good morning!!
Do not let the victims of the attacks on New York and Washington, nor the brave members of our Nation's military who have given their lives to protect our freedom, die in vain!!
CAT V HURRICANE RITA ADVISORY PACKAGE #19

Discussion:
[NOTE: This analysis is based primarily on data from the Tropical Prediction Center. As my home office is still not set up, independent track and guidance analysis is not possible.]
RITA has likely peaked in intensity. That is the good news.
The bad news is the peak is at 175 MPH, and the storm has now taken a decided turn to the right. NHC advises the track above is to the left (West) of the guidance ensemble, and that Sabine Pass is the more likely target, as opposed to Galveston.
The model runs are on the following graphic:

New Orleans is likely to receive between 3 and 5 inches of rain.
The eastward shift in track guidance is resulting in RITA staying over the Loop Current longer than previously expected. This will keep the storm at its current intensity for the balance of the day.
Further strengthening is unlikely as an eyewall replacement cycle is underway--this phenomenon generally locks a hurricane at a specific intensity, if it doesn't actually weaken, until the process is complete.
RITA is expected to move off the Loop Current prior to landfall.
CURRENT FORECAST ESTIMATES PLACE THE WIND SPEED OF RITA AT LANDFALL AT 150 MPH--THIS IS JUST SHY OF CATEGORY V, BUT STILL STRONGER THAN KATRINA.
The cyclone's central pressure is 897 MB or 26.49" Hg. This makes RITA the third most intense hurricane in history. The diameter of hurricane force winds is 140 miles, while tropical storm winds have a diameter of 370 miles.
RITA is currently about 515 miles SE of Galveston and 615 miles ESE of Corpus Christi.
A HP center over western TX will likely continue steering RITA to the right even after landfall, keeping the system locked in eastern Texas and western Louisiana.
The current strike probabilities are summarized on the graphic that follows:

And a quick snap of Rita from space, in the IR spectrum, with false color enhancement--

Now for this thought...
FULLY 20 PERCENT OF THE UNITED STATES GASOLINE REFINING CAPACITY LIES IN THE PATH OF RITA
For AMERICA - The Right Way, I remain yours in the Cause, the Chairman.
I think CNN's got some splainin to do...
You read it right.
I think I will take my granddaughter to the playground in a little bit.
Freepmail Chair..
Will Sheehan kiss her ring too?
I'll bump that.......
Good morning everybody.
Like everyone else, I am afraid to leave the news for too long a stretch.
I don't know what else to do but pray for those in the path of this monsterous Rita.
We all have so many FRiends in the Houston/Galveston areas.
Somewhat hopeful --- hurricanes usually lose strength and Rita is still 490 miles from landfall. Just maybe, she'll fall apart. If only she was one of "those ditzy women."
(((kassie))) what have you decided to do?
I have an appointment in a couple of hours to meet with a real estate agent who specializes in FIRST TIME Buyers....wish me luck.
Everyone on our cul-de-sac is staying. So if anything really severe happens, we can help each other.
Right now we are on the weak side of the storm. Thank you sweet Jesus.
Shana has called two times. She and her precious little girls are on 45 headed to Dallas. She finally made it off Beltway 8 and is now on 45. They were to open south bound lanes to make more lanes going north.
She is in need of prayers. Three girls and a dog. ;)
Oh, good luck indeed. Hopefully, she'll have something.
Food?
Water?
Now is the time to get those things together....do you have a interior room you can go into when the winds get to bad?
The IMF is ordering the United States to raise taxes to ease the deficit???
It's quite astounding that the world's largest monetary body doesn't seem to understand that tax revenues are at the highest point in our nation's history and most analysts credit that with the tax cuts. LOL
We are putting a mattress in the hall bathroom. I've cleaned out under the counter for water, food, battery operated radio, flashlights and first aide kit. We will have to stay in there for many hours. Well, sleeping in there for sure Friday night.
My husband has a tarp that will go over the mattress, that we will tie one end to the toilet and hold on to the other end with gloved hands. Just in case the roof goes. But we all are staying on our street so we'll all look out for each other.
Since we are now on the weaker side of the storm, I am feeling somewhat more calm about staying.
I so appreciate everyone's thoughts and prayers. It keeps me sane.
Don't count on that...hurricanes tend to wobble at the last minute..get everything ready and pray.
..... Covering Shana and the girls in prayer, too.
ABG ~~~ concerned about you, too. Everyone is focused on the Galveston/Houston area and NO but I hope you have your hatches battened down and provisions stored up. You could be in for quite a ride. Plenty of prayers going your way, too.
That is exactly what the weatherman continues to say. Not to be fooled by the computer models. No one knows what Rita will do for sure, until she does it. So we will keep preparing.
...KENNER POLICE (SUBURB OF NEW ORLEANS, NEAR THE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT) FIND AT A KENNER CHIEF ADMINISTRATOR'S HOME OFFICE FOUR PICK-UP TRUCK'S FULL WORTH OF FOOD, CLOTHING, AND TOOLS INTENDED FOR KATRINA VICTIMS
POLICE SEARCHED THE OFFICIAL'S HOME BECAUSE OF COMPLAINTS THAT CITY WORKERS WERE HELPING THEMSELVES TO DONATIONS INTENDED FOR KATRINA VICTIMS
Storm Donations Found at Official's Home
The man ought to be shot! This really peeves me off! Totally outrageous!
Shot. Nope. Tie him to the levee and give him a freakin' bucket to save himself.......if Rita..dumps inches on NO.
