We will not tire, we will not falter, and we will not fail!
Good morning!!
Do not let the victims of the attacks on New York and Washington, nor the brave members of our Nation's military who have given their lives to protect our freedom, die in vain!!
CAT V HURRICANE RITA ADVISORY PACKAGE #19

Discussion:
[NOTE: This analysis is based primarily on data from the Tropical Prediction Center. As my home office is still not set up, independent track and guidance analysis is not possible.]
RITA has likely peaked in intensity. That is the good news.
The bad news is the peak is at 175 MPH, and the storm has now taken a decided turn to the right. NHC advises the track above is to the left (West) of the guidance ensemble, and that Sabine Pass is the more likely target, as opposed to Galveston.
The model runs are on the following graphic:

New Orleans is likely to receive between 3 and 5 inches of rain.
The eastward shift in track guidance is resulting in RITA staying over the Loop Current longer than previously expected. This will keep the storm at its current intensity for the balance of the day.
Further strengthening is unlikely as an eyewall replacement cycle is underway--this phenomenon generally locks a hurricane at a specific intensity, if it doesn't actually weaken, until the process is complete.
RITA is expected to move off the Loop Current prior to landfall.
CURRENT FORECAST ESTIMATES PLACE THE WIND SPEED OF RITA AT LANDFALL AT 150 MPH--THIS IS JUST SHY OF CATEGORY V, BUT STILL STRONGER THAN KATRINA.
The cyclone's central pressure is 897 MB or 26.49" Hg. This makes RITA the third most intense hurricane in history. The diameter of hurricane force winds is 140 miles, while tropical storm winds have a diameter of 370 miles.
RITA is currently about 515 miles SE of Galveston and 615 miles ESE of Corpus Christi.
A HP center over western TX will likely continue steering RITA to the right even after landfall, keeping the system locked in eastern Texas and western Louisiana.
The current strike probabilities are summarized on the graphic that follows:

Now for this thought...
FULLY 20 PERCENT OF THE UNITED STATES GASOLINE REFINING CAPACITY LIES IN THE PATH OF RITA

#83... We are good to go.
After sitting for 6 hours and going only a couple of miles Shana decided to head back home - took her 15 minutes to get home! Her boss had called her and told her Rita was shifting to the east. He lives but a few blocks from her and has told her she can go there, or he will go to her place. She is feeling comfortable with her decision.
Awwwww, thank you lysie.
prayers continue or you and family
So good to see you here...even if for only a few moments. ((IOWA GRANNY))

Hi all: I haven't written much lately, just passed on jokes. Have been saying prayers for family and friends in harms way. It appears that Hurricane Rita has made a bit of a turn to the east and there is a chance that Galveston might be spared a direct hit. My niece and her family (Houston address but actually living in Katy) are going to ride it out as well as friends Ada Jo and Louis. AJ told me Claude and Claudell moved north to safety. My prayers go out to all in need.
Our house is a construction zone :-) First, the deck piers and now Paul is re-doing the outside entry way. For those of you who have been here, visualize coming to the front door and seeing the south wall of the entry gone! So much bright light! He will be setting the glass panes in tomorrow and then building the sheltered deck area for my plants. Larry would be SO pleased :-) Next he will replace the support post down in the garage - that is the only place we have any sign of termites.
This man is so reasonable and does such good work that I think when all of this is finished, I will ask him to give me a bid on replacing the front wall of the wood shed. I have the lumber and the glass bricks that Larry wanted to use there, so the only cost will be his labor.
I built the critters a small fire last night and have kept it going. They are SO happy and I can knit without a lap full of spoiled babies, so picture me happy too :-)
Yesterday, Merry, Kathy and I took a walk from the clinic down to Wheeler and back up hospital hill (some call it cardiac hill). I think I did just fine, wasn't short of breath at all, but noticed some discomfort in my hip so I didn't walk today. I will walk with them again nest week - just need to know I'm not hurting myself with the steep hill climb. It makes me feel so good that I can do that kind of walk at my age :-) The exercise is so good for me! My lawn mowing is keeping me physically fit but I need to exercise more to lose the weight I think I need to dump and walking should help .... I am also doing 25 set-ups each morning.
I will I am going to have broiled salmon and a salad for my dinner. As soon as I am skinny (HAH!) I am going to eat rice at least once a week and have grits for breakfast. I can NOT tell you all how much I miss my grits!!!!
Bev, thanks for including us in your family updates. It really means a lot to me.
Are you comfortable with her decision? I don't remember where her home is, kassie, but will keep her safety and your granddaughters in my prayers tonight and tomorrow night.
Oh, no. I'll never be able to listen to Arlen again without hearing Ed Sullivan's voice. A blast from the past!
HAHAHA! He DOES look like Ed!!!!!!
lol...............
Ev just called. This was out total conversation:
Me: Hello?
Him:Hey! What's happenin'?? (his standard greeting)
Me: Well, hi! How ya doing??
Him:I just thought I'd check in and see how things are going. I won't be able to talk too long...actually, I have to go right now!
Me:Check your e-mail!
Him:Will do! Bye!
Me: Bye!
Oh well, At least I got to hear his voice.:-)
I am getting so very WEARY of absolutely EVERYTHING being his fault!!!
Last night, on KGO (I know, I know....masochistic behavior) that idiot Talifero said our President's IQ was only 91. Now, I know that was going around on the internet for years, however, if anyone bothered to check at snopes.com, they would know that it is/was a HOAX. But, do you think the liberals EVER check anything out? Of course not!! They just pass it on as FACT.
Speaking of liberals, how can any person want to be in the same party as Teddy Kennedy? Did you all see his little speech against Roberts today? He has completed the pickling of his brain....what a JERK!!!
Now, I am going to go to bed so I can get up early in the morning and start watching the RITA progress. ((hugs)) B
Don't you just love converstations with your sons? Daughters will tell you EVERYTHING from what they had for lunch to what movie they watched, etc. Sons on the other hand are pretty much "Hi/Bye" types. But, he let you know he was OK - that's the main thing.
Good night Sweetie.:)
You are exactly right. My daughter talks my ear off. My boys........well............
But it was nice of him to check in, albeit very briefly.:)
Actually the abrupt end to the conversation was prolly due to a sergeant or somebody entering the barracks.

Good night everybody!
I'm glad you heard from your son today. Have you talked to him since you rode the horse?
I'm glad your surgery went well today. Don't overdo, let them take care of you for awhile. :)
I think I will be going to Denver tomorrow morning. I went to the dr this morning, had x-rays which looked fine. It's just a really bad case of muscle spasms. I have muscle relaxants and major pain pills. I'll see how I feel early tomorrow morning, and then make a decision.
Anyway, I may not check back until Sunday sometime. Everyone have a great weekend. Everyone who is sick or afflicted, get better. :)
