Too many errors, too many men left on base.

There is no joy in Mudville...Chisox win.

SOX WIN! SOX WIN!

Joe Crede leads off the bottom of the 10th with a walk-off homer. Sox, 7-6.

Up again by 3.5 games.

One helluva good game. I had a bad feeling even before the stretch. Your boys brought it tonight, but good.

This game almost killed me. I had to watch it with my hand over my face looking through my fingers.

The Sox live again to play another day!

Rent-an-error count: 29

More errors than 2003 (16) and 2004 (11) combined

Wow, that certainly puts it in perspective. You probably already know this, but there are lots of rumors floating around (Peter Gammons of ESPN, WEEI radio, Boston Globe, etc.) that Renteria has some sort of physical problem (bad back maybe?) and is keeping quiet about it...

Ortiz's 87 home runs over the last two years are the most any Boston player has hit in back-to-back years, topping the 86 by Hall of Famer Foxx in 1937-38.

His 27 homers on the road broke Ted Williams' team mark of 25, set in 1957.

BTW, I don't have any animosity for a true Red Sox fan (right nutmeg?).

Right, nor I for a true Yankees fan. ;-) I actually have several FReeper friends (and non-FReeper friends) who are Yankee fans...

I must confess to also rooting for Ken's Mets, especially since Red Sox pitcher Pedro Martinez joined them... definitely made them a more interesting team this year IMHO. It's kind of tough to be a true fan, though, when you can never see the games. We only get NESN (New England Sports Network - Red Sox station) up here, no MSG (or whatever the Mets station is) and no YES network.

0.5 game ahead of the Yankees. I'm too disgusted to comment further... >:-(

I agree. I WANT THE DIVISION DAMMIT!!!!

Dont get me wrong, I want another title. But the A.L. east should have been wrapped up a long time ago. We lost way to many games to teams like the Orioles, Royals, and D-rays while the Yank's were limping along a month ago. Now we will most likely be facing a winner take all series next weekend.

If you look at the last 10 games column in the standings, what really jumps out at you is that almost all of the teams--26 out of the 30--are in the 4-6 to 6-4 range. The only sigificant runs have come from the Yankees and the Indians, each of whom is 8-2 over the last ten.

I loved it when the Mets got Pedro. He drives my (Met fan) boyfriend nuts! BTW, he (Darrell) says to say 'hi'.

Are you a Reds fan too? They're my NL team, and Sean Casey is my favorite current baseball player.

FYI..update on the playoff scenarios in the AL...AND BOTH TEAMS WOULD MAKE THE PLAYOFFS then they uses the head to head record to determine who is the divison champ..right now Yankees lead 9-7

2. If there is a 3 way tie..say Yankees, Red Sox and Indians all finish with the same record...Yankees and Sawx first play a game..in NY..winner is the division chasmp..the loser plays the Indians the next day...at the Jake..for the WC..

However, now here's my question..let's say 4 teams...White Sox and Indians, Yankees and Redsox, all finish witht he same record...it's NOT outside the realm of possibility...maybe a 1 in 30 chance...then what happens?..I assume that Yankees play Red Sox, Tribe plays White Sox..winners are the divisional champs..and the two loser then play for the WC..

BTW..good chance we might have a playoff in the AL WEST..

it isn't a 1 in 30 chance that they could all tie....it's more like 1 in 360....but you are right, definitely not out of the realm of possibility.

Those chances get better as long as no one goes on a tear the final week or so.

P(BOS & NYY tie at 95-67) * P(CHA & CLE tie at 95-67) +
P(BOS & NYY tie at 96-66) * P(CHA & CLE tie at 96-66) +
etc.

P(BOS & NYY tie at 95-67), I think you have to split up a bit because they're not independent since they play each other -- split into H2H and non-H2H. Same with CHA-CLE games.
