According to a British reporter interviewed on FNC.

Overindulgence does seem to be the theme of this "relief effort."

I heard it too. She said they basically "put them to sleep".

Yeah, it gets worse by the day. I found the article by the reporter who was just on fox and posted it.

For those who care, here's how the DUmmies are reacting:

Needless to say, they are VERY understanding.

I don't think she said lethal dosages...did she?....I heard her say they gave morphine to put them asleep but kept them as comforable as possible..

Yes, that's what was said. If, as described, these were suffering people on the brink of death who had no chance of survival, I think it was the humane thing to do. I doubt the doctors involved were looking for an excuse to kill people. It would have to be an agonizing decision for anyone.

If you heard it on Fox, I would take it with a grain of salt, unless you get some corroborating evidence. I have been singularly disappointed with Fox's sensationalistic reporting and bombastic exaggeration of the "horrific tragedy" occurring in N.O. (however, this doesn't mean they are alone in this on-the-fly editorializing)

I would have hoped that national reporters spent more time reporting the news, rather than trying to tell me how horrible what they were showing me was, and how much I should be outraged. This, I would expect from the local reporters who didn't know any better.

Some doctors apparently gave overdoses of morphine to patients who had no resuscitation on their charts. Supposedly they were trying to make them as comfortable as possible, since resources were limited, the heat was overwhelming and the patients were already dying.

Well, let's just wait and see.

Lately FOX News has been just as bad as other news outlets in jumping the gun without corroborating evidence.

My wife is a Neuroscience BSN/RN. Here's what's probably happening. People die. This IS a fact. In combat, many times, when half of somebody's brain is hanging off their shoulder due to a massive cranial trauma..but the person lingers on, they "sedate" them knowing they aren't going to survive.

But in a combat surgical theater, it's a little different. In this "world", sometimes it's not as obvious as the physical trauma that's due to tools of war. But the person is dying all the same. All the medical professionals involved know it, and it's a heart wrenching thing to watch. She's had kids die in her arms, and has held an old person's hand as they took their last breath. She's come home in tears so many times that I've lose count, and she has never become "hard" to these things she sees. I asked her once what upset her so badly, and for a long time afterwards I wished that I hadn't. It gave me bad dreams for three nights in a row.

Here's the way it works. IF the person is dying, and especially if the person is in great pain, they WILL administer a pain killer such as morphine. There are dosage guidelines based on body weight, but these medical folks usually have a pretty good idea if a high dose (but still within the guidelines) is going to "push the person over the edge".

I've asked her if she was ever personally responsible for doing something like this, and she said emphatically NO. But it does happen. Usually, a doctor makes the decision, and either he, or one of the RNs (under his orders) administers the sedative. Nobody actually discusses that they're performing a mercy killing, but that's what's happening.

Of course, the MSM is going to spin this into "mercy killing"...a.k.a. euthansia. It shouldn't matter to them since they kill their unborn by the thousands every day. But this will matter.

When it's all said and done, they'll end up with a doctor who plainly states...and with good documentation, and staff to witness...that the deceased person was terminal. They administered a sedative according to the manufacturer's guidelines, and the the person didn't pull through. End of story.

We had to kill our patients (Superdome euthanasia)
The Daily Mail ^ | 09/11/2005 | CAROLINE GRAHAM and JO KNOWSLEY

Doctors working in hurricane-ravaged New Orleans killed critically ill patients rather than leaving them to die in agony as they evacuated hospitals, The Mail on Sunday can reveal. With gangs of rapists and looters rampaging through wards in the flooded city, senior doctors took the harrowing decision to give massive overdoses of morphine to those they believed could not make it out alive.

The Terri Schiavo precedent opened the floodgates.

Now other people get to determine your time to die. Welcome to the hospital of the 21st century killing fields.

Perhaps Mr. Shiavo was in charge there. And the courts would approve...
however, I think this is a BOGUS account.
