"Nice rescue boat. Whats he going to do? Strap 1 survivor to the side of it as it starts to sink? "

On a conference call, that made me laugh out loud!

READ BETWEEN THE LINES OF THIS ARTICLE. DO NOT JUST LOOK AT THE HEADLINE.

Nowhere in the article does Penn say a thing about Bush. In fact, nowhere do they even directly quote him as criticizing the federal government at all. There was just one point where the newspaper inserted its own words into the quote: "There are people dying and (the US government are) not putting the boats in the water". Who knows what he actually said that got replaced with the parenthetical phrase? He could just as easily been referring to the local authorities.

Remember, this is a British paper, so any criticism of the authorities are likely to be reported as criticism of "the U.S. authorities", but that doesn't mean we're talking federal authorities.

Look especially at the last few paragraphs, where a British bus driver reported that "police officers" were taunting some distressed girls to lift up their shirts. That sounds like a description of local authorities to me, even though it's reported as "U.S. authorities" by the Brits.

He makes Spicolli look intelligent by comparison.

Penn *IS* Spicolli. It was the most honest example of type casting ever seen in the history of Hollywood.

Democrats may be exploiting a tragic natural disaster to score cheap political points, but at least they’re cynical and bitter about it.

That's the problem. The media gives these walking trash receptacles the biggest soap box in America. But why? Because they are famous? I won't even say talented anymore. Film like "Mystic River" only got the attention it did because of Penn and Robbins politics. Brosnan? Pretty boy is even over the hill to play Bond. Otherwise these clowns would cheer on the enemy in obscurity.

And movie attendance figures continue to plummet. Why?
1.) global warming
2.) Bush's fault or
3.) self-absorbed idiots in the film industry.

Yes, the correct answer is: # 3.
And ticket prices with astronomical snack prices, and if that weren't enough, a few commercials before the endless previews of coming attractions.
Then you get to `enjoy' a lame, boring, `re-tread' that often manages to insult you as well.

"There are people that are dying right now and I mean babies and old people and everybody in between - they're dying. There are people dying and (the US government are) not putting the boats in the water, I think that's criminal negligence. I don't think anybody ever anticipated the criminal negligence of the Bush administration in this situation."

If this isn't his quote then he should be a good lib and sue them.

I'm not paying $14 for popcorn and a coke. I can take all of my kids to a Saturday Night stock car race for less than that.

If that was his quote, they wouldn't have put parentheses around the phrase "U.S. government". And they already breached journalistic ethics by mentioning Bush in the headline and nowhere at all, either implicitly or explicitly, in the text.

This was a dirty hit job by the paper. I have no idea of the extent to which Penn was complicit, because I don't follow him.

The media is just showing and telling the things that fit their version of reality. I know for a fact there was signifcant federal rescue efforts within the devasted areas within 24 hours. This effort would have been fine for most "normal disasters". Katrina is not a normal or major disaster. The media just didn't see the efforts or want to show it. Lets face it, news organizations are setup to show "bad news". That's the way it has always been. Then when you throw liberal bias in, are we surprised what we are seeing? I am not. The only thing that has surprised me is how quick they started the race and political biased reporting this time. I mean it was starting by Tuesday evening on CNN.

Sean Penn sounds like a such an ignorant stooge.

I wonder what this guy's I.Q. is??

If he wasn't acting in Hollywood, my guess is he'd be loading a sanitation truck somewhere for a living. Or maybe working for some company which collects dog droppings from homeowners.

This from a man holding a red cup to bale water from a boat which he obviously didn't inspect.
