DEAUVILLE, France (AFP) - Pierce Brosnan lobbed sharp criticism at President George W. Bush for his environmental policies and his handling of the hurricane catastrophe in the United States.
"This man called President Bush has a lot to answer for," the former James Bond actor told journalists as he presented his latest movie at a French festival of US film in this Normandy resort town.
"I don't know if this man is really taking care of America," Brosnan said Saturday.
He was responding to a question about the Bush administration's response to Hurrican Katrina, which has wreaked massive destruction and loss of life in the southern US.
Bush has been accused of reacting too slowly and not bringing enough federal aid to bear on the chaos, which many people fear may be linked to climate change.
Bush and his officials have refused to sign up to the Kyoto protocol which aims to reduce greenhouse emissions believed to be behind climate change.
"This government has been shameful," Brosnan said.
The outburst revealed a rare moment of passion for the actor, who had been fielding questions mostly about his new film, "The Matador", and about his career now that he has refused to play in any more James Bond films.
...'nuff said.
Anybody got any?
What a freaking moron!
Ahhh. Thank you...It did not occur to me that my tagline might be particularly relevant in THIS case...:)
why didn't I know you'd have something on this. Thanx!
Let me see, Hollywood is producing visual swill coupled with actors that, every time they open their mouths, they alienate movie goers.
And Hollywood wonders why they have box office problems.
The city leaders had at least two full days to use these hundreds of buses to evac the poor, exactly as their own emergency management plan called for.
Here's the southeast Louisiana evac plan supplement, most recently revised in 2000. Go to page 13, read paragraph 5. It states:
5. The primary means of hurricane evacuation will be personal vehicles. School and municipal buses, government-owned vehicles and vehicles provided by volunteer agencies may be used to provide transportation for individuals who lack transportation and require assistance in evacuating.
Is it any news that some Hollywood actor whose career is going nowhere will jump at the chance to get the publicity offered by the mass media for saying outrageous things about the President?
At times like this, one would hope these Hollywood attention hogs would continue to do what they do best -- pretend to be somebody important and worthy of attention.
But can you really blame these people for prostituting themselves for the media pimps?
Jugglers, clowns and minstrels providing insight on serious issues. I think I'll go ask the "Will Work for Food" guy over by the interstate ramp for some mutual fund advice.
Another sissy boy mouths off.
The mass media is really struggling for credibility now.
Instead of asking experts anymore, they just ask the man in the street for their "expert" opinion -- and failing that, they troll Hollywood to see who wants any publicity.
Let me see if I understand this. An actor, and a foreign one at that, has suddenly become an expert an expert on how to respond to a natural disaster in the United States. Am I missing something? Who died and put him in charge?
It's a good thing I have a large DVD library of classic films. Most of the actors in them are dead, and are no longer able to pontificate on things beyond their comprehension.
Ho hum. Another Hollywood asshat to add to my don't-see list.
Yeah, I guess this could land him a "serious" interview with Chrissy Matthews. The world awaits with baited breath.
Oh my. Those with small brains and less info speak.
Outstanding!
Another mindless prettyboy heard from...
Didn't he have a starring role in a movie as the President of the United States once?
Unfortunately, a lot of today's journalists get mixed up with those who are the president and those just pretending to be the president. But most don't care now because their editors won't know the difference.
I like it ~ good one!
