Seeing all the tragedy in New Orleans is bad enough, but to see how the local leaders of this community failed to serve their people is inexcusable.
In this photo of school buses parked in New Orleans there is 203 visible buses. Most are about the same size. These buses range in seating capacity from 48 to 78. This means 10,000 to 17,000 people could have been evacuated with just these buses. How many more school buses there were is not known to me at this time.
Also, I do not know exactly how many local mass transit buses this city has and we can also include the suburbs. If this communities leaders were prepared for a disaster like this, this parking lot would have been empty.
If anyone has more info on the actual numbers on vehicles, please post.
NONE of the LIBERAL MEDIA'S focus will be on the state and local level. ALL they'll focus on is how BUSH didnt care or respond fast enough. The headlines are full of this tripe already!
Lots of people were evacuated from N.O. Everyone will never leave even when you make it a manditory evacuation.
Katrina being predicted to hit N.O. was a God send. Had it been predicted to hit Mobile and then slide west and hit Biloxi and pushed that water into the lake breaking the levee, the casualties would be higher by a factor of 10 or 100.
This is and has been reported on the DRUDGE REPORT for the past few hours, thankfully.
It also had been posted a few times yesterday here on FR thanks to RasterMaster.

I couldn't have said it better. You should post this on DU, too. There will be plenty of blame to go around when things are back to order.
Disaster preparedness and response is simply too important now to get bogged down in partisan bickering, as much as I'd like to so engage.
I hope that everyone involved will keep your wise words in mind, PRESSmUp.
And the MSM is still not reporting on the fact that the Mayor of NEW ORLEANS didn't even bother to even start the engines of these school buses in preparation to evacuate these people.

Yes, I was looking for it and couldn't find it. TY!
After nightshift did the math I was really shocked. I don't want to hear another word about Bush not doing enough. If it wasn't for him there would be nearly a city of dead people.
A lot of it boils down to moral issues as well. Evil doesn't take a day off and loves to put down those that are good.
I want to post DRUDGE REPROPT LINK under News but I can't get the picture to work?
Can you help?
Thanks.
ROFL thanks for posting that, I haven't seen til now.
Of course if they had "made" everyone leave they wouldn't be able to grip at Pres. Bush!
That's true but some of the notariable Senators seem to have their partisan glasses permanently implanted.
I'll freepmail you!
Therefore, there were enough buses (school and transit) to take the 100,000 who remained out of the City in one trip. (That would have saved the buses, also.) And the evacuation plan prepared and in writing in 2000 called for the use of public transport for those who lacked cars.
In short, these buses were flooded out, and thousands of people died, because Mayor Nagin belatedly called for evacuation, but then did not follow up by calling out every bus in the City. It's as simple as that.

It is truly aggravating that MSM aren't reporting on that fact. There is no telling how many dead will be found once the water is gone and it didn't have to be that way!
I believe I read that Nagin evacuated his own family on Fri or Sat.
That's right! There could have been a very low number of casualties if someone had taken the bull by the horns. People deserve a lot more from their leaders!
