In this photo of school buses parked in New Orleans there is 203 visible buses. Most are about the same size. These buses range in seating capacity from 48 to 78. This means 10,000 to 17,000 people could have been evacuated with just these buses. How many more school buses there were is not known to me at this time.

Also, I do not know exactly how many local mass transit buses this city has and we can also include the suburbs. If this communities leaders were prepared for a disaster like this, this parking lot would have been empty.

If anyone has more info on the actual numbers on vehicles, please post.

NONE of the LIBERAL MEDIA'S focus will be on the state and local level. ALL they'll focus on is how BUSH didnt care or respond fast enough. The headlines are full of this tripe already!

Lots of people were evacuated from N.O. Everyone will never leave even when you make it a manditory evacuation.

Katrina being predicted to hit N.O. was a God send. Had it been predicted to hit Mobile and then slide west and hit Biloxi and pushed that water into the lake breaking the levee, the casualties would be higher by a factor of 10 or 100.

This is and has been reported on the DRUDGE REPORT for the past few hours, thankfully.

It also had been posted a few times yesterday here on FR thanks to RasterMaster.

There's about 300 school buses in the first photo and 200 in the second photo. They probably have other pool locations, but just with the buses shown here, they could have moved 20,000 per trip.

And the MSM is still not reporting on the fact that the Mayor of NEW ORLEANS didn't even bother to even start the engines of these school buses in preparation to evacuate these people.

The Census data show that the citizens of New Orleans, both children and adults, relied on buses more than those in any other American city. (New York relies more on public transit, but not on buses.)

Therefore, there were enough buses (school and transit) to take the 100,000 who remained out of the City in one trip. (That would have saved the buses, also.) And the evacuation plan prepared and in writing in 2000 called for the use of public transport for those who lacked cars.

In short, these buses were flooded out, and thousands of people died, because Mayor Nagin belatedly called for evacuation, but then did not follow up by calling out every bus in the City. It's as simple as that.
