Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

She could use the toaster as a means of transporting her loot - maybe stash the jewels in the little tray at the bottom.
To: JenB
Or maybe one object d'art is a gold-plated toaster.

People EATING Toast and Aloe?
>>shudder<< sounds like stomach ache.
To: Lil'freeper
What if one big stomach ache was destroying the world?
And the only thing to save us was an invasion of little pink men who blasted us with Pepto Bismol...

What if planet earth is a big kidney stone that's about to be passed...

Get Smart was a *great* show. There were lots of those back in the '60s.

My thieves have class. They don't steal gold-plated toasters or Andy Warhol prints.

Maybe your thieves set gold-plated toasters and Warhol prints in place of the items they steal. Ala Indianna Jones.

Or maybe that's the Bad Guys' calling card - the equivalent of a horsehead in the bed.
I think I may give Secondary Character a POV after all. I can make him an FBI (or something) agent. The only reason I want to use him is because I have a great name - "Quincy Archer" - doesn't that sound exactly like a hard-bitten PI?

I like it. I'm searching for a name for an evil henchman. He functions much like Tom Clancy's Mr. Clark - very smart, resourceful, and ruthless.

Afternoon folkses... [sip]
Sip-sipping away in da Seattle airport agin... Once more into the breach!!!
Ruthy: Wow... nasty about the little foot. That's got to *really* hurt. Is she getting around OK on it?
This time I'm going down to SFO for two weeks. Yikes, I hope the laundry service at the hotel is good. Didn't bring that many clothes. But I should *finally* have a chance to look around town. It's really wierd that after all these years of commuting down there I've never even been downtown.

Lots of good Italian restaurants in San Francisco. Last time I held a conference there, we hit a different Italian restaurant every night (for about a week) until someone said "enough."
But, alas, that was 13 years ago, so I have no recommendations.

The only thing I really need to figure out is how to get down to the wharf easily, without driving there or taking a cab. It's a $100 cab fare... *each way* and that's a little steep. I could drive, but I've heard horror stories about how tough it is for a newbie to get around downtown. And parking is just not available.
I'll figger sumpthin.
