The Hobbit Hole XXIV - Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...
Please see our Hobbit Hole Troop Support project blog! ^

Posted on 08/24/2005 9:50:25 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I've got the billpay thing with the credit union to automatically pay the bills.

'Course the amounts might not always be quite right...

We could... but then we'd have to fix it. Net loss, I'm thinkin'. :-)

At least it's pretty there.... better than annexing anywhere in the middle east.

Venezuela, Mexico, whatever...

Just relish the idea of ticking that loudmouth Chavez off.

...and we can put the refineries there. Who's going to notice a little more pollution in Mexico?

Oh - are you talkin' Mexico now? I thought you were talking Venezuela.

Hmmm.... well annexing Mexico would solve that whole problem with that big open border. No more illegals.

Good news on the family front. Finally was able to get through to Hattiesburg this evening. It was the first time my brother George's phone had rung since Sunday! My brother Mike and his wife Pat are alive. They lost everything in the storm. I had been worried sick about him all day since I talked to my brother Gerry this morning. He told me that Mike's son Chris had been on the phone with Mike during the eye of the storm on Monday morning. They HAD stayed at their home in Bay St. Louis, and at the time Chris was talking to him, Mike was trying to put a refrigerator in front of his door to keep any more water out. There was 6' of water on the outside and 3' on the inside. Chris lost the connection and didn't hear from him again until this morning. Mike had time just to say that he and Pat were ok, but they lost everything before the line went dead and Chris didn't know where to call him back. At least we know they're alive! Thank the Good Lord.

The last one to track down is Tori. I've been trying to find an e-mail addy for her son in Jackson to see if maybe she'd gone up there.

I had to tell George what I'd seen on tv about New Orleans and the Coast. They haven't had power since Monday, so they've been in a news blackout!

Thanks for all your prayers, but please keep Tori in mind.

Put the refinery in Tijuana. Some chemical industrial pollution there would be *cleaner* than the city itself and be a net benefit to all.

[sigh] Problems solved... while-u-wait. :-)

That's good news Suzi. We'll keep praying for Tori, and for Mike and Pat's readjustments.

Sorry SuziQ for being oblivious that you still had loved ones unaccounted for. I guess I haven't been paying much attention in here.

Very glad to hear they are alright.

I think Americans need to learn to tighten their belts a bit.

I'm sure the people who have to make a choice between paying for DSL or filling their gas tank, or turning down a job because public transportation doesn't go there, or who have to give up their homes because they can't afford the heating oil will be comforted by the knowledge that they'll somehow be improved by having to "tighten their belts a bit."

Somehow I don't think that list will include any oil executives.

I have just sat and watched in awe at those rescues from the rooftops in New Orleans. On Tuesday, those guy were battling wind that kept moving the basket beyond where the guy was on the roof with folks. I don't know how in the world they ever were able to get it to him, but they did it. He did have to go chase it a couple of times, though. ;o)

I'm proud as hell of those guys! They did some great flying!

Holy smokes, Suzi... Wow. Yes, that's good news that they survived... but wow. Losing everything. No small loss there.

Prayers up. Thinking of the magnitude of the losses, even for the survivors. Photo albums. Family heirlooms. Memories. There's just no good to come of this.
