Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

The problem with burning their oil first is that they control how much we get and how much it costs. :-P 'Course we could always invade Venezuela.

In truth, though... oil is a perfectly fungible market. If prices are really high it just encourages US to become an exporter, since the world will pay so much for what we have.
For example: Much of our Alaskan oil is actually sold to Japan because we make more money selling it to them and buying the difference from Venezuela. Japan could just buy it from Venezuela, but it would cost them lots more in shipping. Its cheaper to ship them oil from Alaska. Turns out for us that shipping oil from V is about the same cost as shipping it from Alaska, so we sell to Japan and keep the difference.
Markets. Efficient buggers. Love 'em. :-)

Evening. Just finished balancing the checkbook and paying the bills. Sigh.
However, just a quick look at the news reminds me that it ~could~ be worse! We have our health, a roof over our heads and steady, even if not full-time, jobs.

Yep...they're doing far more than their fair share of the rescue work, and they stepped in right away, without messing around.

'Course we could always invade Venezuela. We could... but then we'd have to fix it. Net loss, I'm thinkin'. :-)
Hugo Chavez is going to show the world how to run a perfectly good country totally into the ground. Venezuela used to have a perfectly good economy, and pretty successful at that. Once Chavez is finished with it, there won't be much left but the starving masses.
We'd be better off invading Mexico. They have lots of oil, and we have most of their people. A little slight of hand and we could fool all the illegal aliens into sneaking *back* into Mexico, the 51st state. :-)
