As opposed to it walking off on its own?
So far, the looters are unfortunately under-represented among the dead. Perhaps some of that will be fixed with time.
In college... we used to get rid of stuff by putting it in the elevator. It was like a miracle. Put something in... send it away... elevator came back empty every time.
We called it "vatorizing".
Road Dryer? :-D
Izzit kilted?
I am unabashedly biased in the matter, but I'm gonna go ahead and say that I'm really really proud of my Coast Guard shipmates today. Those guys didn't wait for a better plan, they just got in there and started doing what they could. It should be recognized that those pilots and crews and their support groups have been running solid for about 48hrs now. Probably precious little sleep for any of them.
[snif] You just gotta luv these guys... even if they *are* stinkin' rotorheads. :-)
I'm just browsing through the Katrina threads. ~sigh~
Heartbreaking stuff, but I'm gonna have to stop reading it for now or risk emotional burnout.
My mom just came back from buying a gallon of milk and she said that the gas stations have very long lines.
My car's got 3/4 of the tank full, so I'm not worried yet. Here's hoping the spike in prices is just due to temporary hysteria.
Gotta love 'em. Real Americans on display.
The Panic Pimps have been out in full force today. Honestly, I think the real impact on supply for gas is completely overblown. Yes, there's some disruption, but we'll get by it.
I've got a full tank and I can use public transit a lot, so I'm not too worried... yet...
I'm sure things will be tough for a while, but I think Americans need to learn to tighten their belts a bit.
This nation has gotten entirely TOO spoiled for its own good.
Folks complain about the price of gas when there are people out there fighting for their lives after losing everything, including people they love.
*disgusted snort*
I'll have to cut down on the junk food snacks for the kids and maybe brown-bag it for a while at work to budget for the gas prices, but I'm not going to whine about it.
I'm grateful to have what I have as long as God is blessing me with it. Katrina showed just how quickly it can all disappear.
Don't worry.
The panic is exactly what is causing the price gougers to have power.
Some folks are encouraging the Doom & Gloom because they profit from it.
Kinda like Democrats.
I'll believe we have a gas price crisis when I'm not sitting in mass stop and go traffic every day. :-)
Exactly. We'll learn to adapt to the gas prices.
But I also think we should seize the issue. We need to build more refineries. We need to authorize drilling in ANWR.
Tell the whiney liberals "if you DROVE to work today...STFU."
But don't quote me on that. ;-)
Heh. Indeed.
...and then there's the folks that day trade in the futures markets, and went way too long on gas futures a while back... and see this as a way to get some of their losses back.
If I were smart, I'd wait a couple of days for the panic to peak out, and then go short on october gasoline futures.
I have a new theory on the subject, and so far I haven't thought of a good argument against it:
Burn their oil first. :-)
Maybe there's a certain wisdom in saving our own reserves for later... when things get *really* scarce. :-) I dunno... but I heard somebody say that the other day, and the more I think on it, the more I like it.
Couldn't agree more.
I'd be ready to say that if you want cheaper gasoline, then we need more refineries and more of our own oil.
Simple.
We don't have to pave the earth, but we should go ahead and wisely use what we've been given.
The problem with burning their oil first is that they control how much we get and how much it costs. :-P
Hey! Wasn't this war supposed to be for oil? Where is it?
*dialing Viggo's number*
Of course this still remains a distribution problem and not a supply problem. But it's time we were better prepared.
Heh...you could die of old age waiting for those people to come up with a plan.
