Diana and Dodi Statue Unveiled
Hello! Magazine ^ | 8/24/05 | Unattributed

Posted on 08/24/2005 2:54:58 PM PDT by Huntress

On the eve of the eighth anniversary of Princess Diana's death, she has been honoured with a new sculpture dedicated to both her and her companion Dodi Fayed, who also died in the 1997 Paris car crash.

The bronze statue, entitled Innocent Victims, was commissioned by Dodi's father, Harrods owner Mohammed Al Fayed. Created by family friend Bill Mitchell, it is due to occupy a special place inside the legendary London store.

The work depicts Diana and Dodi smiling into each other's eyes as they apparently run along a beach together, with a bird poised for flight at the tip of their joined hands. Dodi's shirt is unbuttoned and the Princess is clad in a skimpy, clinging dress.

Was that really necessary? I thought we were better than this.

She grew up on an estate very near one of the Windsor residences. Her father at one time had hopes of marrying ELizabeth. Diana had hopes of marrying Andrew growing up. She knew exactly what she was getting, she was raised in it.

I disagree. She was young, naive, and relatively inexperienced with men. I concede that perhaps she should have known what she was getting into, but not that she did.

Dodi's father already had an elaborate shrine to them at the base of the escalator in Harrods. It was beyond tacky. I wonder if this is to replace it or in addition.

Ya know, there's this place around the corner from me that sells that REALLY BIG, bronze "Lawn Sculpture" (Full size horses, a gang of kid's playing..etc) You know what, IT ALL ULGY. This would fit in nicely.

BTW this place has had a "Going out of Business" sale for about 14 months now, and the crap still isn't moving.

Perhaps it's just the angle of the photo, but it appears Diana has no legs. And what is that stuff around the feet area supposed to be? Seaweed?

Awful, just awful...

......I still think he is a cad but she was just as bad if not worse......

I agree with attributing blame to the both of them: They were BOTH very immature people due their respective pampered upbringings.

I'm thinking of having this as an ice sculpture at the reception. What say y'all?

read everyone's comments...

call me weird, if you will, but I like it.

If that is the memorial the dad wants for his son, so be it. Guess he figured he would immortalize also the woman who gave his son happiness in the last days of his life. It will be in the dad's store, if I am reading it correctly? If it were on a public square I am sure the royal family would be a bit POd.. donchaknow.

I see no place on the statue where one could pour liquor down a channel to another person.

"It's a cultural thing."

Reminds me of the mansion a mysterious Saudi family bought in Beverly Hills, California, years ago. They placed statues of naked women out in front -- painted flesh-colored & lifelike, with pink nipples and pubic hair.

Cars would stop and crawl by, as people would look. (And this was a major street, Sunset Boulevard.)

The family later got in trouble with the law and left just as mysteriously as they came. The statues were eventually taken down, and the house sold to somebody -- hopefully, not Saudi.

I'm in London right now....want me to see if I can swipe it and smuggle it back to Houston? Then you can have the real thing.

After 10 minutes in Houston, wouldn't most ice sculptures fit in one's pocket?
