He is very homesick and feels totally isolated right now. Those of his first platoon are in a different company (different MOSes chosen) and he's having to make friends all over again. He's tired of that. Since 2004 he's said good-bye to all his classmates, they're scattered all over the globe; his girlfriend broke up with him; we've had a few family deaths and he didn't return to college as planned (although that will happen in January). He is just tired of bonding and breaking those bonds. Things are exacerbated for him due to sleep deprevation. But he ships home October 6. He called Monday night and maybe spoke a little long. He might have gotten in trouble for that.

That's the thing with the Army. You become very close to a bunch of people and all of a sudden you are with a NEW group of people, and may never see any of the guys from the old group again.

Ev has had to say goodbye to his buddies from basic, his buddies from AIT, and now his buddies from his own company, as he was assigned to a different company for the deployment.

But the way he looks at it is, they are all part of the same thing, and you never know when you will run into each other again. He met one girl at MEPS who ended up in his platoon at basic and traveled to Fort Sam Houston with him for medic training. He met guys from Minnesota at AIT who are now training at Camp Shelby, where he is; and is looking forward to possibly catching up with some of them.

Ev also left good friends at college; 2 colleges actually, as he transfered after freshman year; and of course, he lost his Grandpa last fall.

It's not been easy. But he is tough, and so is JT. You have to be to get through boot camp.:)
