Yeah, that was a good one. A few years ago I met William Smith, who played the Russian colonel. You probably remember that he spoke Russian in the movie. His Russian was very good. He didn't have to learn it for his role, because he already spoke it.

Of course! How could I forget! You remind me with your reference of that the mini series BAND OF BROTHERS. It was one of the greatest. I focused on Saving Private Ryan and only your reference sparked it. Way to go. BTW I never saw the Branagh version, only a stage play once. It sent shivers through me and they were not very good actors. What power words have.

I don't know. Maybe it is my family history and upbring why I feel like I do. If you trace my family back on my father's side, my ancestry is not Mexican or Spanish but Basque. My first ancestors arrived in Texas and wound up fighting for the Republic of Texas under Sam Houston. My grandfather fought in France in WW1. My dad's oldest brother died at Nomandy and is buried there. My granmother never realized her dream of one day laying flowers on his grave. Another of my dad's brothers died in Korea. My dad was wounded there and ironically he was shipped home on the transport that brought back his brother's body.

Four straight generations of my family have been wounded in battle. The latest used to be me, but now that honor(?) belongs to my daughter since she got wounded in Bagdad last year.

I look at Izzy, my grandson and pray that he will never fire a government weapon at an enemy in defense of our country or it's interests, but I also know, should it have to be that way, he will. It has been in our blood for 170+ years, it is in his also.

It is a hard thing to have patriots and heros in a family, you have to live up to them.

Texas has suffered more casualties in this War on Terror than any other state except California. One half of the soldiers killed had Spanish surnames. My daughter was wounded in Iraq last year. She looks as Mexican as they come. I find comments like the one above hurtful because it seems that the sacrifices of my family under the flag of this country are not good enough because we don't look like or have a last name like, some people feel we should.

I dare anyone to find a more patriotic or America loving group than young Mexican-American kids serving in the Marines or Army today.

I just rented "Team America" this weekend. I was kind of shocked at the puppet pornography in the movie. Not to mention the foul language. Definitely not a movie for children.

I agree I was put off by those scenes as well. Without that it would have been a fun movie.

Well, you know my thoughts on this movie. (Just got it, too :-))....But for a pure celebration of the American spirit, I'd have to vote for "Yankee Doodle Dandy". :-)

Yes, and Yankee Doodle Dandy (where Michael Jackson learned to dance), and A Bridge Too Far, which has some great flag-waving moments, despite the loss of the battle. Even Midway, with its odd script, is pretty darn patriotic.

"Henry V" is now out on DVD. I highly recommend it.

And while I agree that "Band of Brothers" is great, I don't see a lot of flag-waving patriotism in it. True, the men of Company E, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment were all patriots who put their lives on the line for their country, but they were also a cohesive military unit whose members looked out for each other, a true "band of brothers." I once had the privilege of serving in a unit like that. They were more than fellow soldiers, they were family.
