"I'm not pleased with the manager (Joe Torre). I don't know about why they left the lefthander (Embree-still producing for the Red Sox) in. He had a good inning and they kept him in there. He should never have pitched to Konerko -- he's their best hitter." -- 8.9, George Steinbrenner
Georgie is about to blow a gasget.
A nice winning streak at home would make a big difference, and they have the talent to do that, but they just haven't.
Martinez, Peralta, and Hafner hit well on the road and at Jacob's Field. Sizemore and Crisp haven't done so and need to step up.
Sabathia needs to be traded. He's awful at home, going 1-5 with an ERA of nearly 6. He's actually okay outside of Cleveland (7-4 record). That accounts for several of those home losses that hurts the overall home win total.
Why does Sabathia struggle at home? He sucked last year, too. He was 5-5 with a 5.00+ ERA.
We wonder why women argue over the stupid crap they argue about.
Things will get better for the Pinstriped Ones - the best team in baseball left town
*yawn*
Thanks for the thoughtful response...
I thought you were interested in discussing baseball. My apologies.
I don't argue.
Sawx have 49 left, Yankees 50, including 6 games head to head.
Assume the teams split the six, and the Sawx play at the same % now .580, as they have through the season..all pretty reasonable, right?
That gives the Red Sox 94 wins..and to TIE, the Yankes would have to go 31-13 in their remaining games..NO WAY..not witht hat rotation..Nope..it's over..
We have a tougher schedule the rest of the way than the Yanks (opponent winning percentage), but it's mitigated by the fact that we play most of those teams in Fenway.
This ChiSox series worked out for us, with Arroyo and Miller (who's now on the DL)-- who are our most erratic pitchers-- out of the series. We have Wells, Wakefield and Clement and a sweep would not be surprising at all.
We have to go on the road against Detroit and the Angels for 7 games. Those are key. If we can take care of business in those 7 games, we will be really set up to win the division.
Oh, and Scott Proctor won't last 2 innings tonight. Against that Rangers offense. They are for real. The Yanks will score, too, of course, but I think the Rangers bp is better than the Yanks (except for closer).
Concur..I think the Yankes split the 4 with the Rangers..BTW..you have an exciting series starting tonight..preview of the ALCS I think..
Please explain to me how he could keep Kendall over at least one of the following: Mulder, Hudson, or Redmond.
The As will beat the ChiSox in the ALDS, IMO.
We already had a split of a 4 game series in Chicago, and could have had a 3-1 series win. Now, they are playing in Fenway. The ChiSox can't hit. They don't score at home and they don't score on the road. They win with pitching and Fenway isn't nice to pitchers-- Pedro's Fenway ERA was like a run higher.
Look at what he got for those three pitchers.....this team will contend for years because of those trades. After losing Giambi they still won over 100 games. He can field a team that wins.
Billy doesn't know catching though. He was on the record saying that if he had taken the Red Sox job, which he did for about 24 hours, his first task would have been to trade Jason Veritek. Ask around baseball and most pitchers will tell you that he makes that pitching staff a whole lot better. (Wakefield's knuckle ball not withstanding)
I don't dislike Kendall, but can you deny is he way overpaid?
He is over paid, no doubt but the Pirates are paying part of the tab. They picked up in the trades for Hudson and Mulder:
Danny Haren
Kiko Colero
Juan Cruz
Dan Meyer
Daric Barton and someone else I believe.
Look at what Mulder did down the stretch last year and consider that they couldn't resign Hudson for what he could get elsewhere and he came out okay.
How are those guys. I'm not really familiar.
I'm a Red Sox fan on the east coast but Billy likes strike out pitchers and that's what he got. The catcher was St. Louis' 2003 first round pick. Maybe he will turn into something in two years and he can kiss of Kendall.
I just saw the replay of the collision in the OF between Cameron and Beltran..that's the season...too bad..
Red Sox 6' 6" über-pitching prospect (given a major-league deal right out of the draft) Craig Hansen, just out of St. John's University, was promoted to the Sea Dogs last night, served as closer, and got the save against the Norwich Navigators (Giants affiliate), throwing only 9 pitches, all strikes, and topped out at 96. He gave up only 1 hit, got a K, a ground out and a pop out. If he pitches like this, he'll be in Pawtucket soon and on the roster after September 1.
