Dear (name here): Will you marry me? (WI Guy Trolls for Chicks)

Brian Stace, country singer and Madison native, is taking matters of romance into his own hands.

Last Tuesday, Stace unveiled a billboard located at Pflaum Road on Highway 51 posing a simple question: "Who Wants to Marry Brian Stace?"

"I think this (billboard) is going to help me meet a lot of women in a short period of time," Stace said. "My picture is on the Web site (www.brianstace.com), and if women are interested they can submit an application to go on a date with me."

Often splitting time between homes in Los Angeles, Nashville and Madison, Stace will be in Madison until August. Between promoting his new CD at the end of this month and making appearances, he plans to go on as many dates with area women as he can manage.

Already, women are showing interest.

"I've actually already been on one date," he said. "It went really well, so that was surprising. The billboard had only been up for two days and I had applications coming in."

Stace is no stranger to making major decisions and then putting all of his effort into them. A few years back, he decided he wanted to be a country singer. Following what he calls a life-changing plane crash, Stace cast aside his job in business and chose to pursue his dreams.

"I took a deep breath and woke up the next day, asking myself if I was doing what I was supposed to be doing with my life," Stace said on his Web site. "There are a few different points in one's life that inspires this kind of re-evaluation, and this was mine."

His latest aspiration involves meeting his dream woman and settling down to start a family. Unfortunately, Stace said, conventional ways of meeting women weren't working well for him. So Stace was determined to find a companion his own way.

"You know, it's hard when you're out there at bars trying to meet people," he said. "I've done that and it just didn't work well for me, so I figured I'd try something new."

The billboard in Madison is one of three Stace plans to do, with signs also planned for Los Angeles and Nashville. Stace said he chose to advertise in Madison first, as he'd like to meet some local girls.

"I grew up here and thought it'd be a great idea to start with these down-home Midwest girls," he said. "I'm looking for goal-oriented, caring, thoughtful and giving women - someone I can really be happy with."

When asked why he chose a billboard, Stace cited his former job.

"Well, sales and marketing taught me to go for huge attention," he said. "I just wanted to say, 'Here's a single guy. If you're interested, go out with him.'

"I think a lot of girls are going to see this, so that's really going to speed up the process."

Stace said his song, "I Don't Wanna Wish I Had," the debut single from his forthcoming album, really coincides with everything going on in his life, including the billboard. Of course, with the album coming out this month, the billboard campaign could easily be labeled nothing more than a publicity stunt. Stace, however, said he didn't set out with media hype in mind.

Originally, he said, he came up with the idea on his own and was going to handle it himself. But "this thing just keeps getting bigger," he said.

After someone suggested Stace film all of the dates he goes on, the idea of a TV show wasn't far off. Stace said the idea for a TV show chronicling his dating adventures was pitched to Country Music Television and other networks. He has also applied for the next edition of ABC's popular show "The Bachelor."

"I was just recently accepted to the second round of 'The Bachelor' casting, so that's also a possibility," Stace said. "I'm really happy to have made it that far, but it's pretty tough competition."

The "Who Wants to Marry Brian Stace?" competition runs until Dec. 31, with information on getting a date with Stace available on his Web site. A winner will be announced at a New Year's Eve celebration with Stace.

As for advice for any woman hoping to be the future Mrs. Stace: "I guess just be themselves," he said. "And be sure to get on the Web site, fill out an application and submit a picture. That's about it."

Hey! Play nice, now. You got yours (or so I've recently heard *wink*) and I got mine, so if this self-promoting @ss needs to go to these lengths, lets just count our own Lucky Stars, LOL! (Why do I think that this is just a calculated career move on his part, though?)

I found my DH the "Old Fashioned" way...through a newspaper ad, LOL! Thirteen years and still going strong! :)

Petronski didn't want to send me his picture :-) I made my decision sight unseen.

This is similar to how I met my wife. I fell down drunk in a bar one night and a friend wrote in Sharpee on my forehead, "Who wants to take this home?"

My wife, who has excellent taste but sometimes poor judgement, dragged me back to her apartment. I woke up from a pretty good drunk three months later and we were married.

Sadly, it will probably work for him.

And then, he will regret it.
