Wining and dining best way to woo women

LONDON (Reuters) - Forget expensive presents or costly jewellery. Wining and dining is the best way for men to woo women, scientists said on Tuesday.

Researchers at Imperial College London developed a mathematical formula and modelled courtship as a sequential game to find the best way to impress the ladies.

Their results show that offering an expensive present signals the man's serious intentions but he must be wary of being exploited by gold-diggers who will dump him after receiving the gift.

"Guys are less likely to offer expensive gifts to females they don't have a long-term interest in. And girls won't be impressed with cheap gifts. By offering expensive but worthless gifts, such as dinner and theatre trips, the male pays no cost if the invitation isn't accepted," said Dr Peter Sozou, of University College London (UCL).

If women are not interested they are unlikely to accept the invitation, according to the research published in the journal Proceedings of the Royal Society of London B.

The researchers said giving gifts was a feature of courtship in humans and other species to impress females. Physical attraction is an important element but offering gifts also helps.

"Our analysis shows there is evolutionary logic in men 'burning money' to impress the girl," said Professor Robert Seymour of UCL's department of mathematics.

More important than offering or accepting baubles cheap or costly, women need to give men cues--especially holding his gaze and smiling! -- to show a man it's OK to approach.

Women rarely do that for anyone less than Brad Pitt, because they don't have to. It's a test of character. Her reasoning: if you aren't man enough to approach her even if she seems disinterested, then you aren't man enough for her.

Women are not attracted to men who are timid, nice, honest and respectful.
The best women are attracted to precisely that.
No woman is attracted to that. Some are willing to settle for it, but they will never forgive him.

Mr. and Mrs. Petronski, Can you believe this crap?

I'm losing complete respect for single male freepers.

Jeeves, you can't believe that a woman will only SETTLE for someone nice!!!!

The ink may end up on your blouse, later.

Hairspray! You have to rub it with a toothbrush (an old one is best!); but it works.

If no hairspray is available, straight gin or vodka....seriously. In all three cases, the alcohol is working as a powerful solvent. Keep dousing and rinsing with cold. It will all come out with a bit of scrubbing.

I've found that my love is based on how much they make me LIKE ME!

If a man makes me feel like I'm someone special, he sure looks special to me.

(Vanity? Who knows...)

Come on, DD, honestly: how many times have you ever been attracted to a timid, respectful man? That kind of wuss behavior sets off every psychobiological alarm in a woman's nervous system. Women are attracted to self-confident, daring, amusingly cocky men who promise to offer them new and interesting experiences and seem strong enough to defend her and her children from harm. The empirical evidence of this is overwhelming.

A woman might settle for a timid man, but it isn't attraction she is feeling - just a certain temporary comfort level. If he doesn't grow beyond that timidity into the man she hopes for, the two will be headed inevitably for a breakup.

"Women are not attracted to men who are timid, nice, honest and respectful"

There has to be some kind of award for that statement! lol

Re-phrase it to be "Not ALL women are attracted to men who are timid, nice, honest and respectful......and that would be correct. Not all women are, but many are.

:o)

Men tend to be attracted to women with best looks.

They can't help it: They're visual.

Women my age no longer procreate, so it wouldn't behoove them to be attracted to older, non-procreative women. Natural selection--of sorts. (Wow, I did a spell-check; and I spelled, "behoove" correctly!)

No - not vanity - REALITY!

People like to be with other people that make them feel good about themselves.

You've heard the old sayings about having two ears and one mouth - means you should listen twice as much as you talk!

There are people I look forward to seeing because they make me feel strong, beautiful, smart, talented, whatever - but they bring out the best in me because they see it.

These guys who blame women just haven't met the right one. They are probably targeting Ann Coulter and should "settle" (using their words) for someone of average or above average looks - maybe not a perfect body - maybe a few wrinkles - but someone who is less shallow and with more depth of personality.

I don't blame men for being single. Why should they blame us!?
