My top two are both Volkswagens, back in the 60's. One was a Karman Gia, the other was a Squareback. My, they were awful. I tried to like them, but I couldn't.
Third would be a Chevy Suburban, also in the 60's or possibly the early 70's. I used to joke that I could see things falling off it in the rear-view mirror as we drove down the road. Still, it had its place in the overall scope of things.
Best would be a 1996 Ford Ranger. That was a great truck. If I hadn't wrecked it, I would have kept it forever.
My new Toyota Tundra is not as good. It's okay. I don't like the controls. I should have shopped more.
My GEO Tracker is pretty good. I can't figure out how to set the clock, but it works pretty well otherwise.
I've had 3 Hondas ('76 CVCC; '81 Accord; '88 Civic)...kept each for 10 years. Those are wonderful cars!
VW's were, if I recall correctly, the last cars to be sold for "under $2,000" when new. I liked those pretty little things.
Heh! My best was my old 1976 Chevy Van. It was all black, tinted windows, 2 sunroofs, stereo rigged so I could plug my guitar into it and play Metallica from the driver's seat anywhere I parked. Hood scoop with a "Rotting claw" on top made out of Bondo. Comfy bed in back.
Loved that old piece of junk!
We had some car over in Germany that--we were told--had ropes holding parts together. We had our '76 Honda over there, too; so we didn't use that white box thing very often. It was the extra car. They didn't have to have safety glass. EEEK!
for instance, the wipers quit at 240,000 miles - you ever drive 320,000 miled without winshield wipers?
Actually, that's not true. I made them work - all you had to do was let go of the strearing wheel, crawl under the dash, and move the by hand.
A little tricky at 60 MPH.
Thank God I wasn't using a cell phone, eh? that might have been dangerous.
Worst vehicles: A new 1965 British Triumph TR-4, 1985 Chrysler, 1987 Mercedes 190.
Best vehicles: 1963 Plymouth Valiant. 1988 Jeep Comanche PU, 1974 Ford F-150 4x4, 1986 (which still have) full size Jimmy K-5, 1998 Ford Eddie Bauer (which also still have) Explorer.
I have two Ford trucks. 1988 F 150 and a 2001 F 150. Both have been excellent for me.Maybe the cars aren't as good as the trucks.I will buy another one when the 88 goes...
1976 Chevy Van
Didn't they write a SONG about your van?
If they did, it probably sounded like Darth Vader's Theme.
Trabi?
Ahhh, the good old days...
I had an ancient Ford van Love Machine that had a cracked block when I purchased it from my old girlfriend's Grandfather....we loved that thing....
Do you know the Yugo had a rear window defroster as standard equipment? It was really handy for pushing it on cold mornings!
duh? I'm embarrassed to not know that code? :-\
Bump for later.
Vega...
Never done that, but had to do without a clutch a few times. Drove a VW Beetle about six blocks without a left front wheel, and a pile of concrete blocks in the right rear floorboard and back seat.
You can buy the exhaust scent on line, people are nostalgic for it.
Add chrome and that was my 1979 Bobcat wagon - my worst car.
No va.
