I've had 3 Hondas ('76 CVCC; '81 Accord; '88 Civic)...kept each for 10 years. Those are wonderful cars!

VW's were, if I recall correctly, the last cars to be sold for "under $2,000" when new. I liked those pretty little things.

Heh! My best was my old 1976 Chevy Van. It was all black, tinted windows, 2 sunroofs, stereo rigged so I could plug my guitar into it and play Metallica from the driver's seat anywhere I parked. Hood scoop with a "Rotting claw" on top made out of Bondo. Comfy bed in back.
Loved that old piece of junk!

We had some car over in Germany that--we were told--had ropes holding parts together. We had our '76 Honda over there, too; so we didn't use that white box thing very often. It was the extra car. They didn't have to have safety glass. EEEK!

yeah...but you might want to read the rest of the thread.
for instance, the wipers quit at 240,000 miles - you ever drive 320,000 miled without winshield wipers?
Actually, that's not true. I made them work - all you had to do was let go of the strearing wheel, crawl under the dash, and move the by hand.
A little tricky at 60 MPH.
Thank God I wasn't using a cell phone, eh? that might have been dangerous.

I have two Ford trucks. 1988 F 150 and a 2001 F 150. Both have been excellent for me.Maybe the cars aren't as good as the trucks.I will buy another one when the 88 goes...

Man. Now THAT would suck. Still 500,000 miles is amazing. Gotta give you credit for sicking with that vehicle though.

Do you know the Yugo had a rear window defroster as standard equipment? It was really handy for pushing it on cold mornings!

Ever drive 1000 miles with no brakes?Never done that, but had to do without a clutch a few times. Drove a VW Beetle about six blocks without a left front wheel, and a pile of concrete blocks in the right rear floorboard and back seat.
