I have a question for freepers that are into statistics or arguing for 2nd Amendment rights. This is something I should probably know already, but I was arguing with somebody about gun rights, and this person was throwing out numbers about how Australia and the individual countries Europe have a much lower violent crime rates than the US. Without pointing out the obvious on how using guns in self defense deters criminals, can anybody tell me why Europe/Australia has a lower rate of violent crime than the US? Or if this data is even correct? I'd appreciate it.
They just change the definition of the crime to mask the #'s.
perhaps the gun crimes have fallen in England, but other types of violent crime are soaring.
Well, if you use a gun to blow some slime bucket to hell who is trying to rob you that would be considered a violent crime statistic. If on the other hand they merely say this is a robbery and you give them your money, no violence no statistic.
Easy access to cheap, illegal guns in the inner cities drives the US gun crime rate way up. That's why all these gun control laws are nonsense - they target suburban, low-crime populations and do nothing to address illegal guns.
I think your friend is making up statistics.

One more thing, Americans are fighters, they love a good fight, criminals included. Q. What did you do in the war. A. Well, I shoveled shit in Louisiana. Americans are not euroweenies.
There are lots of ways to play statistic games. For instance, anti gun groups here often include "children" as old as 21 years old in child/gun stats.
BTW your sign up date is suspect, I am gonna use the TTTTTT word for record.
Indeed, information on Handgun Control's Center to Prevent Handgun Violence website actually praises Australia and attempts to portray Australia as a much safer country following strict gun-control measures passed by lawmakers in 1996.
"The next time a credulous friend or acquaintance tells you that Australia actually suffered more crime when they got tougher on guns ... offer him a Foster's, and tell him the facts," the CPHV site says.
"In 1998, the rate at which firearms were used in murder, attempted murder, assault, sexual assault and armed robbery went down. In that year, the last for which statistics are available, the number of murders involving a firearm declined to its lowest point in four years," says CPHV.
However, the International Crime Victims Survey notes that overall crime victimization Down Under rose from 27.8 percent of the population in 1988, to 28.6 percent in 1991 to over 30 percent in 1999.
Advocates of less gun control in the U.S. say the drop in gun murder rates was more than offset by the overall victimization increase. Also, they note that Australia leads the ICVS report in three of four categories -- burglary (3.9 percent of the population), violent crime (4.1 percent) and overall victimization (about 31 percent).

Have you looked at his posting history? What is suspect about this person? Take your finger off the trigger and have a drink of water.

They also include accidental discharges that result in self-inflicted wounds for police officers.
Euroweasels don't need guns anyway - they will blithely follow any Mussolini or Hitler or Stalin that comes along to enslave them. They are sheep.
On a side note - "hot robberies" are on the rise in Europe. A "hot robbery" is when criminals break in, knowing that you are unarmed, and help themselves to your wife and daughters.
Jamaica has banned handguns and has the strictest enforcement procedures for gun possession, yet its murder rate is higher than that of the U.S.
No, I will not, I have read his history post. IMHO he needs to be spanked and put to bed.
Based on what?
Has he yet to respond to this vanity? Try reading all his past post.
I don't see anything in the posting history. I provided him a very useful link in this vanity, and perhaps he is engrossed in reading that.
I'll ping my resident troll spotter for a second opinion.
"...Question about crime..."
There's a LOT of it here in Memphis.
One answer is that they don't have a lower violent crime rate: in the Twentieth Century, 100 million or so Europeans died by violence, compared to a million or a million-and-a-half Americans.
